Silo Season 3 Episode 5 Takes Us Down a Memory-Filled Lane Filled with Answers

We knew eventually that Juliette would have to get her memories back on Silo Season 3.

The question was always how it would happen. As she saw more and more people from her past, would those memories eventually come flooding back?

However, Silo Season 3 Episode 4 delivered a cliffhanger ending that brought up even more questions. How exactly was Bernard still alive?

And so, the most recent installment has ended up with what feels like a thousand more questions to answer, and fortunately, it wasted no time in doing so.

Which Side Is Sims Really On?

Silo Season 3 Episode 5 manages the flashbacks well. Each one starts in black and white, making it clear that we’re going to the past, but we don’t stay in that coloring.

There’s a chance to feel like we’re part of this story, feeling the heaviness and fear that the characters have as they go through the events.

Shirley and Knox rush to the door to get Juliette out, and we see how Sims makes a choice that will affect everything.

I’m not sure how I feel about Sims just yet, but the hints of him eventually choosing Juliette’s side were always there.

As the Algorithm made it clear that only Camille could stay, Sims was always going to develop more questions.

He’d already noticed that Bernard was lying to him about what was in that room. He knew that Bernard was getting instructions from someone or something.

Now he has an idea of what that is, and there’s no removing that memory at this point. I’m surprised the Algorithm didn’t want Camille to do something drastic to her husband and son.

It’s too late now, and Sims has a lot of doubts because of the secrets Camille is now keeping from him.

So, rather than following Camille’s instructions to kill Bernard, he decides to turn to two people who are his enemies.

Out of everyone in the silo, not only can he trust Walker and Carla to actually do a job like hiding Bernard, but he can trust them to keep it between themselves.

I don’t blame Walker and Carla for not trusting him at first. They have seen what he can do, but Sims is a changing man.

I’m here for this redemption arc, but I hope that it ends with true redemption and not some sort of ultimate sacrifice.

Death doesn’t mean redemption. This is a man who needs to work hard for it.

Juliette Finally Gets Her Memories Back!

We all get to rejoice, as Silo Season 3 Episode 5 ends with Juliette finally getting her memories back.

It’s not easy, though.

Bernard has some ideas because of what he knows from The Order, and we finally get some answers about why George’s ex, Regina Jackson, was trading items with the Juliette worshippers.

Again, Sims knows who to trust based on their past actions, and he knows Regina is damn good at getting relics.

However, it takes everyone working together to help, and this was my favorite part of the hour.

As the smaller relics don’t help, Regina points out that she wanted to get the watch, but she didn’t know where it was.

Then, just as Walker seems to think it’s hopeless, Hank steps in. Of course, he knew where the watch was.

If you didn’t think Juliette’s dad giving Hank that watch at the end of Silo Season 2 meant something, then you weren’t paying a lot of attention to the writing.

Everything in this series has constantly come back up, and it’s the watch that helps to unlock the memories.

Of course, unlocking the memories is just part of the puzzle, and I adore the way that this group keeps running into roadblock after roadblock.

Juliette now remembers the other silo, and that means she remembers those children she promised to save.

However, the Algorithm isn’t willing to save the children. 

This isn’t about saving the human race, but about control. That much is clear, and Juliette has to play the game.

So, it seems she will. She’ll take the memory drugs, and the children can do too, as long as those children get to find a new home.

On the surface, it’s an easy way to get the Algorithm to say yes, but we all know that there has to be something more to this plan.

Barnard talked of the safeguard, and he told Walker about it. Walker has told Knox and Shirley, and even Juliette knows about it.

It’s only a matter of time before the truth about this safeguard gets out, and the silo starts panicking and rioting again.

Juliette can’t allow her memories to be taken. She needs to help block the pipe that will send the toxin in as soon as possible.

There’s hope with so many people working together now, and they’re not stupid people. 

Walker and Carla know how to tinker and manage; Knox and Shirley know how to think on their feet and work their tools; Sims knows how to manipulate.

Together, they can do it — as long as Kennedy doesn’t spout his mouth off. He’s the weakest link.

Is It Going to Be Worth It?

There’s just one question in all of this.

Is saving the silo even going to be worth it?

Billings gets his own shock as another layer of the hour unfolds.

That murder of Orla? Well, it was likely due to something far bigger; something Carla has held close.

Orla going to Critical Supply was always the clue to who murdered her. 

We knew that was where she was headed, and it turns out that Critical Supply isn’t just some random name given to a fun part of the underground bunker.

It’s got the supplies that are literally critical to survival. There should have been enough to last another 70 years, but items are being stolen, and now, this silo only has two years left.

My guess is that 70 years was part of a bigger plan. Whoever created this silo system wanted to do it for a set amount of time. 

Otherwise, why have items critical to life that couldn’t be recreated?

Well, okay, there is a sadistic thought there, but let’s go with the idea that those who created all this had an endpoint when people would be able to leave the bunkers.

My assumption would be that the Head of IT would be instructed by the Algorithm to get people ready to leave within a few years of that 70-year mark.

With only two years’ supply left and no talk of leaving, it’s a much scarier prospect.

Billings needs to get to the bottom of the murder. As he and Hank both deduce, figuring out who murdered Orla will help to find the Supply thief; finding the Supply thief will help to find the murderer.

These two cases are now combined, and they need to do this while Hank also knows a little about the safeguard. 

Hank has been such a sweet guy, so I’m excited to see his development from this point.

Just to cap off this Silo Season 3 review, I know I didn’t mention much about the past storyline.

Was there any point to it? I forgot all about it with all the action in the silo.

Watching Daniel and Helen get trapped in a car that had been taken over by AI and is taking them to who knows where wasn’t all that thrilling.

Let’s hope the next installment adds more to their storyline, because right now, I’m finding it a waste.
