Random thought: What was Jackson Lamb’s family like? As in the one he grew up with?
One doesn’t get to be the way he is without some sort of foundational basis. Something gave him a love for the misfit.
Under all that filth and foul language, he harbors a real affection for his Joes, and someone’s going to find out this season exactly how far he’ll go to protect them.
Slow Horses “Daddy Issues”
The Slow Horses Season 6 premiere, “Circle of Life,” introduced a couple of assassins working their way through a list of ex-Slough House agents.
Watching River’s dad, Frank Harkness, garrote a man in front of the man’s son before the opening credits of Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 2, “Daddy Issues,” gives us some perspective on the different kinds of killers we’re dealing with.
I find it highly unlikely that the pair is working with Harkness, given their clean efficiency and his bull-in-a-china-shop approach.
And that leads to only one conclusion: Multiple contracts are in play.
The Five Fs
Lamb lists his big questions to the team when they meet to discuss how Frank Harkness factors into the death of ex-Slough House agents Struan Loy and Kay White.
Four questions and a directive, to be exact.
But the conspiracy lines crisscross, making it hard to get a straight answer.
The dead Dog, Andrew Nesmith, stole a file from Molly on orders from Cantor, who then hired Frank to kill Andrew.
Cantor funded Peter Judd, who handed the money to Diana Taverner, who used it to bankroll something she doesn’t want to talk about. Ever.
Taverner ordered the Slow Horses’ digital files scrubbed, according to Moira Tregorian, who is next on the assassins’ hit list.
The assassins have a list that could be the physical file of Slough House agents stolen from Molly’s records.

But does that mean Cantor hired Nesmith to steal that file? Or did Cantor pay Nesmith for the file that fuelled the gotcha interview Taverner was extorted into giving? Both?
Why would Cantor contract Frank if he already had the assassin duo working for him?
And why would Cantor want to kill Slough House agents?
She’s Back
And while we’re talking about dead Horses, welcome back, Sid Baker.
Brief recap: Sidonie “Sid” Baker was Diana Taverner’s inside agent at Slough House. On Slow Horses Season 1, she was assigned to watch River Cartwright.
By the season finale, she is presumed dead after being shot in the head on Slow Horses Season 1 Episode 2, “Work Drinks.”
Because River was her partner on the stakeout that resulted in her injury, he’s carried some guilt over her supposed death ever since.
It’s definitely a pile-it-on-River season, what with him burying his grandfather only to have his father attend the funeral and then Sid showing up alive after ghost-calling him from inside his grandfather’s house.
She Don’t Do Glitches, Does She?
For the record, it’s deeply disturbing to see Taverner not in control.
I mean, it’s usually great fun to see Lamb get under her skin, but Peter Judd and Damien Cantor have a combined ick factor that scores off the charts.
Emma Flyte’s antennae are already up after the whole “Don’t tell Lamb about Loy” thing. Taverner going against type and doing a TV interview will drive her up the wall.
One can only assume that Taverner has many irons in the fire. Hopefully, her butt isn’t one of them.
Blake’s Grave in the Nick of Time
For an episode that starts with a murder and ends with a resurrection, it’s Standish’s struggle with the bottle that had me truly concerned.
Six seasons in, she finally learns the truth about Charles Partner’s death, and it sends her into a tailspin.
With a bottle in hand and her sobriety hanging by a thread, Lamb times his Blake’s Grave order perfectly to give him a reason to pick her up.
Slow Horses Season 6 is a throwback to Slow Horses Season 1 in so many ways.
First of all, Taverner’s revelation about Lamb killing Partner has been hanging in the air since Season 1, when Standish heard Taverner’s voicemail.
Mind you, even now, Lamb’s managed to avoid confirming or denying any of it.
Then, of course, there’s Struan’s short-lived return and Sid’s reappearance.
Finally, the Blake’s Grave order hasn’t been given since Slow Horses Season 1 Episode 4, “Visiting Hours.”
We Don’t Need a Nail Gun
What does this mean for this season’s narrative?
We have Harkness on the loose, sanctioned by Cantor to hunt down the child witness to Nesmith’s murder.
Lamb’s assembling all the Slow Horses he can find like some deranged hodgepodge alternate-universe Avengers team.
And we still don’t know who the F or why the F there’s a kill order out for MI5’s worst operatives.
We can look forward to reconnecting with Louisa. She, on the other hand, probably won’t welcome the Slow Horses stampeding into her new life.
