Streaming Alert: ReelShort’s Things I Wanted to Say Teases a Thin Hemline Between Love & Hate

We’re living in a book adaptation era, and there’s yet another that may pique your interest, and it’s somewhere entirely unexpected.

For those who love the “dark academia” genre, ReelShort is coming in hot (and we do mean hot) with another adaptation from New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy.

Things I Wanted to Say makes its debut today, and we have everything you need to know before diving in.

If you’re among the many readers who voted in our Microdramas poll in the TV Fanatic Insider Facebook Channel (hint hint on joining in), then here’s an example of what we meant.

Microdramas have become a new phenomenon. But let’s get into what they are.

They’re bite-sized, vertically formatted series designed to be watched right on your phone, spanning everything from romance and fantasy to thrillers and beyond.

Microdramas have become all the rage, especially for those who get sucked into a soapy plot mid-scroll on social media.

And they certainly offer nibbles of entertainment during these summer months when traditional scripted content is just barely trickling in now.

That’s what makes ReelShort’s latest collaboration with Monica Murphy so exciting.

It’s bringing bestselling storytelling straight to our phone screens while adding another title to the growing Young Adult/New Adult slate, which has been a welcome breath of fresh air.

Things I Wanted to Say is the first novel in Murphy’s eight-book Lancaster Prep series.

The BookTok sensation is best described as a bully romance that puts a darker spin on the classic enemies-to-lovers formula.

The series follows Summer Savage (Kirby Elwood) and Whit Lancaster (Pablo Kaestli), two teens with a complicated history that’s anything but pleasant.

Whit comes from the family that owns the elite Lancaster Prep, and thanks to a longstanding connection between Whit’s father and Summer’s mother, Summer finds herself enrolled there.

Unfortunately, that also means dealing with Whit, who is the arrogant king of the campus whom everyone seems to either fear or admire.

Senior year at Lancaster Prep is about to get messy in more ways than one.

Summer and Whit come face-to-face again after a life-changing encounter three years earlier, all while both of their families are still reeling from a scandal that changed everything.

Starting over at a new school is difficult enough.

Doing it with Whit determined to make every day miserable is another story entirely, and that’s where this twisted dark romance really begins.

After an affair between their parents tears both families apart, Whit decides the best way to get revenge on Summer’s mother is to hurt the person she loves most: Summer.

The problem is he’s also intensely attracted to her.

The teaser makes it abundantly clear just how much those conflicting emotions are getting the better of him, because the chemistry between them is undeniably steamy.

And we’re not talking your average YA romance, either.

This leans into downright erotica-level heat, so while it’s easy to stream on your phone like any other vertical series, it may not be one you watch in public.

During Things I Wanted to Say, there’s an awfully thin line (and hemline) between love and hate, and you’ll have to watch to see which one wins out.
