Whether you’re waiting for a delayed flight, settling into a hotel after a day of sightseeing, or stretching out beside the pool on one of those spontaneous last-minute holidays, a great TV series can make travel time feel far more enjoyable.
If you’re looking for compelling storytelling that rewards your attention without demanding much effort, these four series deserve a place on your watchlist.
Severance
If you enjoy thought-provoking television, Severance offers a distinctive viewing experience. The series follows employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a procedure that separates their work memories from their personal lives, creating two completely different versions of themselves.
What makes Severance particularly well suited to travel is its structure. Each episode reveals just enough information to keep you curious without overwhelming you with complicated plot details. You can easily watch an episode during a flight and spend the next part of your journey considering the questions it raises.
The Bear
The Bear follows Carmy Berzatto, an accomplished chef who returns to Chicago to run his late brother’s struggling sandwich shop. As he attempts to improve the business, he faces financial pressure, challenging relationships, and the realities of restaurant life.
You might particularly appreciate this series during a food-focused trip. Watching Carmy and his team obsess over ingredients, preparation techniques, and customer experiences often inspires viewers to seek out memorable local restaurants themselves. After an evening episode, you may find yourself approaching the next day’s meals with a little more curiosity and appreciation.
Only Murders in the Building
Only Murders in the Building series centres on three neighbours who share a passion for true crime podcasts and begin investigating suspicious deaths in their New York apartment building while creating a podcast of their own. The show blends mystery with humour, creating an easy watch that still gives you a puzzle to solve. Unlike heavier crime dramas, it maintains a light touch that suits holiday viewing.
Shōgun
When you have a little more time available, Shōgun rewards your attention with an epic story set in feudal Japan. The series follows English sailor John Blackthorne, who becomes entangled in political struggles after arriving in a country whose culture differs dramatically from his own.
This is an ideal choice if you enjoy learning about history and different cultures while travelling. The series explores customs, power structures, language, and social expectations in considerable detail.
