If you were waiting for a Reenie Greene hour, then you must be delighted.
I certainly am!
When Tracker allows the narrative to shift beyond just Colter, especially centering Reenie into the throes of a case, the show will always be better for it.
I enjoy when the series gives Reenie these longer, overarching stories that don’t revolve around Colter but do pull him in at some point. And Tracker Season 3 Episode 19 was the perfect culmination for her case.
On her own, Reenie is such a well-rounded, enjoyable character, and the times we get to see her outside Colter’s proximity are always among my favorites.
Reenie is intelligent, quick-witted, charismatic, ruthless, and shrewd, yet above all, profoundly human.
Yes, she’ll dismantle you in the courtroom, but Reenie’s compassion, resolve, and willingness to go above and beyond for those she loves are always evident. She’s a fighter, as showcased throughout the big case she took on.
Reenie was the whole reason Kurtis Lauper chose to testify. And not because she forced him to, but because she believed wholeheartedly that he and so many other victims deserved justice for the pain they’d been put through.
Everything about Kurtis’s disappearance was creepy, with Kurtis moving around his kitchen like it was any other night, while you could just tell that someone was lying in wait for him.
When he made eye contact with the person hiding in the pantry, I audibly gasped.
Maxine stalking around the property at night with only the light from her iPhone made me so incredibly nervous, because it would be just like Tracker to have someone inadvertently get wrapped up in something dangerous.
Fortunately, nothing happened, and even more fortunately for Reenie and Maxine, their case remained intact because Reenie has a top-tier human tracker on call.
From the moment Colter found that dead body, the case got super confusing. Not that it was hard to follow, but it was unclear in terms of what happened to Kurtis.
Naturally, all eyes were on Prater & Rockwell because of the intimidation tactics they’d already used on Reenie, and apparently Maxine, but if that was the case, did Kurtis kill one of their men and make a run for it?
If so, why did he try to haphazardly clean the scene and escape when he could have just gone to the police?
There was something missing throughout the early parts of this case, with maybe the most head-scratching being how in the world Kurtis got the drop on that man in his kitchen?
Kurtis seemed to have a little pep in his step, but I don’t think it’s wild to assume that the younger-looking man could’ve taken him down. That he not only didn’t take Kurtis down, but Kurtis actually killed him would lead you to believe Kurtis was more than he claimed to be.
That became increasingly more obvious as Colter looked into the case. When he sweet-talked his way inside that bar and saw the footage of Kurtis stealing a car, I wanted to laugh because who the hell was this man?
When Tracker subverts expectations, it’s not always for the better, because they love convoluted plots. But this one was great because, for a short time, it was totally unclear whether Kurtis was good or bad, and why he was being hunted, which made the stakes feel so much higher.
When Kurtis had ANOTHER man in his grasp, it was clear this man was no ordinary old man, and it was also the first time the name Lowell Parker came up.
Kurtis would have taken that man down if not for the pesky need to breathe, and that oxygen tank was literally the only thing that could have slowed him down, because that man was clearly agile and smart.
But turning your back on someone for too long will almost always bite you in the end, and like many men before him, he was lucky that Colter was there and never had any fear about killing someone in the name of finding the person he’s after.
The idea that Kurtis was a name he stole from a deceased friend so he could build a new life and escape his past as the bodyguard for a notorious mob boss was not at all what I expected, but it was kind of brilliant.
It explained why Kurtis’ skills, even at his age, and it also looped in the Prater & Rockwell of it all. If Kurtis had managed to stay hidden for so long, the lawsuit had to be the thing that shed light on him after all this time.
Losing a child has to be the worst pain imaginable, and Lowell would understandably be distraught over his daughter’s death. But turning that pain into a decades-long rage, to the point where he’d take an innocent life just to hurt Kurtis, was incredibly sad.
Lowell was a vengeful, spiteful man, which was very clear from his actions. And it became crystal clear after seeing the man for just 10 seconds why Kurtis built a new life for himself to escape his brutality.
There were two standout moments in this hour, both involving Reenie’s vulnerability, and the first was during the car ride with Kurtis, because it was one of the first times I can remember Reenie tapping into her childhood in that way.
Tracker often raises moral questions for many of the people Colter is looking for, and even for Colter himself.
Kurtis was not a perfect man, by his own admission, and he had a past likely filled with indiscretions and acts that hurt people. But are you only defined by your worst moments?
Who gets to be the judge of that?
It’s also not like one good deed wipes your slate clean, either.
Kurtis was doing a good thing for so many people, and that’s something to applaud, but his current situation was also proof that your past could always come back to haunt you.
The idea of choosing who you ultimately want to be resonates. I loved hearing how Reenie went from a troubled teen to choosing something better for herself.
I also loved everything that happened in that final scene at Lowell’s property because it was Tracker at its best.
There’s nothing better than when Colter enters situations where he is completely outmanned but still finds a way to succeed, because they are nonsensical yet so damn comical.
The visual of Colter on a balcony with four armed men shooting at him, and him escaping because Reenie ran over multiple men shooting at her, was so ridiculous, but the perfect amount of ridiculous.
Just death and destruction all over that driveway, but Kurtis and Jackie were spared, and Reenie’s case lived to see another day.
The mini subplot about the courier search and the mole on the loose made me 100% think it would be Mel for a minute. But I’ve given up hope that she’s some super-shady character, because the narrative just doesn’t seem poised to go in that direction.
The mole, being the opposing counsel we just met for the first time, was anticlimactic. But hey, at least they wrapped up that case with a neat bow, and we can now anticipate what kind of crap storm Reenie will find herself in next season.
The whole season has been building toward Reenie finally letting someone in on the ache she’s been feeling since the end of Tracker Season 2, and it was always going to be Colter.
Reenie and Colter’s friendship is rooted in so much love and respect for one another, and Reenie opening up to him in a way she never has before, lowkey made me a little emotional!
Reenie carries so much, and she does so silently. She and Colter are so alike in that way, being the strong people for those around them. And they can be so strong that they lose themselves in that, neglecting their own selves in the process.
What happened to Reenie had her shrinking in on herself but projecting an air of control to the outside world. She dealt with her trauma internally, and we saw how much it was slowly breaking her apart all season.
Reenie talked about wanting someone to save her when she was younger because she felt invisible. But as an adult, she has so many people who care about her, and it was so nice to hear Colter say that.
Reenie is far from invisible, and she is so loved by the people in her life, like Colter, who would put themselves in the middle of gunfire, outmanned, if that’s what she needed.
There’s a real sadness to Reenie’s story, but also so much hope. She’s not alone, but learning to believe it, trust it, and actually feel supported by it is a battle she may still be fighting.
But hopefully that fight just got a whole lot easier.

- Maxine’s first meeting with Colter was amazing, and I am shocked it doesn’t happen more often.

- If you’re keeping score at home, Colter must have taken out at least four guys in this hour!
The only thing that would have made this hour even better was having Randy on the ground with Reenie and Colter instead of stuck in the office the whole time, but we can’t always get everything we want!
