‘1000-Lb. Best Friends’: Vannessa Cross Gets Massive Wake Up Call

TV Shows

1000-Lb Best Friends star Vannessa Cross admittedly struggles with food addiction and weight issues. But it took something else to open her eyes and make her realize she really needs to make a change.

What exactly happened to get her to have this realization?

Vannessa Cross and her son get some alarming news at the doctor’s office

Vannessa Cross isn’t the only member of her family that struggles with weight issues. Her son Jacob is also on the heavier side. And his lifestyle choices indicate that things may only get worse in the future.

In a recent episode, Vannessa had to check back in with her bariatric physician, Dr. Proctor. She decided to bring Jacob along this time and was shocked to hear that her 18-year-old son now weighs more than she does.

Jacob is also pre-diabetic so Dr. Proctor advised him to focus on weight loss now so his size doesn’t cause more problems as he ages.

During the episode, Vannessa also revealed her grandfather and mother both passed away in their early 50s. She is in her mid-40s and worries she will suffer the same fate if she doesn’t make changes. Seeing Jacob weigh in at the appointment really seemed to motivate Vannessa to make meaningful lifestyle changes this time.

Many fans really sympathized with the family and their situation online. It’s definitely not easy getting upsetting medical news like this. However, many hope she will use it as fuel to get the entire family on the right track.

Fans continue to slam Jakie as she enables the family

Dealing with addiction in any form isn’t easy. And things only get worse when an enabler is involved. On the show, Vannessa Cross also deals with her sister’s influence. Jakie is thin and seemingly eats whatever she wants. However, she also isn’t very respectful of Vannessa’s weight loss goals and continues to bring junk food around, even though Vannessa asks her not to.

Many fans actually went as far as to label Jakie “the devil” for tempting Vannessa.

“It’s like a drug addict getting off their drug, yet you keep bringing it in the house? They’re going to want to do it; they’re going to want to touch it,” Vannessa tearfully confessed. “I’m going to want to eat it; I’m going to want to see it. I want one so bad. I can’t.”

She unfortunately did all gain all the weight back she lost, so she needs to make some changes before Dr. Proctor will approve her for surgery. Do you think she and Jacob can make better choices? Keep tuning into 1000-Lb Best Friends to see what happens next on their journey. New episodes air on Monday nights at 10 PM eastern time on TLC.
