Countless soap characters have said “I do” through the decades. The nuptials of fan-favorite characters are always memorable moments for viewers. Soap weddings are often unforgettable in more ways than one, whether it be the bride’s gown or a shocking objection.

The year 2006 gave us some truly special soap weddings. Twenty-five years after their blockbuster 1981 wedding, General Hospital‘s Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) remarried while surrounded by their children. Days of our Lives had wedding fever in 2006, with three notable couples tying the knot. John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall) said “I do” for a fourth time, but this time, they were in Italy.

And over on All My Children, there was a double wedding. These characters made their nuptials a family affair… literally.

This year is sure to close out with more marriages across the soaps. On The Young and the Restless, Billy (Jason Thompson) and Sally (Courtney Hope) are gearing up for the wedding of the year in Genoa City. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at some of the memorable soap weddings that are turning 20 in 2006.

Luke & Laura, General Hospital

Luke and Laura had the soap wedding of the 20th century. After countless challenges through the years, the supercouple reconciled and decided to remarry — exactly 25 years after they wed on November 16, 1981. Luke and Laura were surrounded by their loved ones as they said “I do” in Lila’s rose garden. A wonderful day for the beloved GH couple.

John & Marlena, Days of our Lives

John and Marlena had their fourth wedding on December 7, 2006. For this ceremony, Marlena stunned in a strapless blue gown.

“I’ve come too close to losing you too many times. But the one thing that’s always brought us back to each other is our love. Because our bond is unbreakable and everlasting,” John told Marlena in his vows.

She responded with beautiful vows of her own, “John, I wish there was a way to put on canvas what I feel for you in my heart. To paint you a picture, because there are no words. But even if it were possible, it would take a Picasso, an artist for the ages, to capture something so profound. A happiness so complete; if I could paint a picture, I’d hang it on the stars to share with the world, because everyone in their lifetime should know such a love.”

Jennifer & Frankie, Days of our Lives

Talk about a wedding twist.  Just as Frankie (Billy Warlock) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) were about to start their lives as husband and wife in June 2006, a presumed-dead Jack (Matthew Ashford) literally stumbled into their church. When Jennifer saw the love of her life alive — and her husband — in front of her eyes, she fainted. Ultimately, with Jack alive (and later cured, thanks to Frankie), Jennifer’s marriage to Frankie was over before it began.

Shawn & Mimi, Days of our Lives

Shawn (Jason Cook) and Mimi’s (Farah Fath) March 2026 nuptials were full of interruptions. Someone should have gotten these two a strict wedding planner! Despite the delays, Shawn and Mimi eventually said “I do,” with Belle (Martha Madison) and baby Claire right there. With all the chatter, no one managed to spill the beans (yet) that Shawn was Claire’s father.

JR & Babe, All My Children

A Jabe wedding! JR and Babe’s romance was tumultuous, to say the least. The couple remarried in March 2006 after seemingly overcoming countless obstacles. But that wasn’t the only wedding to go down in Pine Valley that day…

Adam & Krystal, All My Children

JR’s dad and Babe’s mom also got married, too! These couples certainly didn’t need to keep a wedding budget, but we appreciate them using the same venue and ceremony. Adam (David Canary) and Krystal (Bobbie Eakes) were the ultimate opposites-attract romance. They had initially gotten drunk and married in 2005, but when they realized they had real feelings, they renewed their vows in this 2006 ceremony.
