If you’ve been watching The Drop: A Snowfall Saga and wondering why Macroscope Records boss Jenny Favarella looks so familiar, there’s a very good reason. The record exec has quickly become one of the people Wanda (Gail Bean) needs in her corner as she tries to break into the music business, but Jenny Favarella, played by Isidora Goreshter, previously spent several seasons on another hit TV series.
Jenny is introduced in the premiere as the real power behind Macroscope Records, where Wanda is working as an intern for Darryl “DG” Grant (Brandon Mychal Smith). When Wanda brings Artillery (Simi Sims III) to the label’s attention, Jenny is willing to take a chance on the unpredictable rapper and sends DG and Wanda after him.
By Episode 2, we learn a little more about what makes Jenny tick. She lives in a Laurel Canyon mansion and runs the record label founded by her father. And while Jenny may not necessarily believe in rap music itself, she does believe there’s money to be made from it — putting her in an interesting position as Wanda tries to convince the label that this new sound is worth betting on.
If Jenny looks familiar, it’s because she starred in Showtime’s Shameless as Svetlana Yevgenivna from 2013 to 2018, spanning Seasons 3 through 8. She appeared as a recurring guest star in Seasons 3 and 4 before becoming a main series regular for Seasons 5 through 8, exiting the show at the end of Season 8.
Initially introduced as a sex worker hired by Terry Milkovich (Dennis Cockrum) to marry his closeted gay son Mickey (Noel Fisher). To avoid deportation after Mickey goes to prison, she marries Veronica, leading to a complex polyamorous relationship among Svetlana, Veronica (Shanola Hampton), and Veronica’s husband, Kevin (Steve Howey).
She begins managing their bar, The Alibi Room, but secretly tricks them into signing the bar over to her. To get the bar back, Veronica reports Svetlana to ICE but negotiates her release in exchange for the Alibi (and lessons on managing the books, as well as help with childcare). Svetlana’s story ends when she finally gets what she wants: She marries a wealthy, much older man. Kevin gave her away at the wedding.
Now, almost a decade after Svetlana left her throuple, Goreshter is back as another woman who knows how to navigate a complicated business. Jenny may be operating in a very different world on The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, but as Wanda gets deeper into the music industry, it’s already clear the Macroscope Records head honcho could have a major say in whether her ambitions actually go anywhere.
