What To Know

  • Adults creators Rebecca Shaw and Ben Kronengold discuss where Season 2 will pick up after last season’s cliffhanger.
  • Learn more about the guest stars and their roles within the season as well as what phase of life the friend group is in now.

Adults is entering a new era in Season 2 after introducing viewers to the roast chicken phase of life for Anton (Owen Thiele), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao), Billie (Lucy Freyer), and Samir (Malik Elassal) in Season 1. “I’d say we’re in the f**king and feeling phase of life this time,” teases series cocreator Ben Kronengold.

The comedy following the day-to-day lives of gen z friends last saw them attempt their best adult rite of passage with putting on a dinner party, and Season 2 will continue to up the ante as fellow cocreator Rebecca Shaw reveals, “We have an episode that’s a little bit of a companion piece to ‘Roast Chicken.’ This time around, there’s also an animal component,” she shares, adding, “I don’t want to give too much away.”

Kronengold and Shaw speak candidly about Season 2 of the series from our ATX TV Festival studios, offering as many teases as possible. And while the friends may be in their “f**king and feeling” phase of life, there’s much to be addressed after Season 1’s cliffhanger, which saw Anton marry Paul Baker to keep the Canadian in the United States, but at the same time introduce a kiss that made them question their feelings for one another as Paul Baker’s in a relationship with Issa.

“We knew that we had a lot more stories we wanted to tell, which was such an exciting feeling. I think one of the many gifts of having a show that’s just about people growing up and being in their twenties and trying to figure it out is that between our stories and our friends’ stories and our writers’ amazing stories, there are so many examples of thinking you have it all together and then wildly fall on your butt,” Shaw points out.

One of those ways is through the dynamic between Paul Baker and Anton.”This cliffhanger with the marriage between Paul Baker and Anton and Issa’s feelings, we knew we wanted to see what it felt like to drop a nuclear bomb in the middle of this friend group and see how they would react,” Kronengold shares.

Some new guest stars will shake things up as FX unveiled a seriously stacked lineup of performers joining the mix in Season 2, including Susie Essman, Zosia Mamet, Jake Shane, Gaten Matarazzo, and Raven-Symoné, among others. “We’ve got some really fun ones coming up,” Shaw teases. “We’re going to start to meet a couple of family members of some of the characters, so we have some fun casting there,” she hints, adding, ” And yeah… they’re all gonna start dating, which is fun.”

As for where the story will pick up in Season 2, it’s “a few weeks after we left off,” Shaw explains. “We’re gonna still be watching people dealing with the fallout of what happened to the finale, but with a little bit more perspective, or in everyone’s case, less perspective,” she adds.

Can the friends sort out the complicated feelings unfolding in their group? Fans will have to tune in to find out. In the meantime, stay tuned for more on Adults in the lead-up to Season 2’s arrival, and let us know what you hope to see in the comments section below.
