Al Roker‘s second-eldest daughter, Leila, recently experienced a slight hiccup in her wedding day plans.
Roker previously told Swooon that Leila and her fiancé, Sylvain Gricourt, were tying the knot over Mother’s Day weekend, and that the couple would celebrate their nuptials with two different ceremonies. “There’s one there [in France], and then one here. So, the one there is for family and friends who can’t travel, and then the other one is for here, for everybody else,” he shared.
Roker provided new details about one of his daughter’s wedding ceremonies on the Monday, June 1, episode of Today. A video of a young ring bearer falling asleep while riding down the aisle in a toy car was shown on the broadcast, after which Roker recalled a similar situation happening on Leila’s big day.
“Recently, Leila got married, and [my granddaughter] Sky was gonna be the ring bearer,” he told his fellow hosts. “But she woke up with a fever, so we had to give her some Motrin.”
As a result of Sky’s surprise sickness, a few tweaks were made to Leila’s bridal party. “Her dad, Wes, had to carry her down while Courtney threw the flower petals,” Roker revealed. (Sky is the daughter of Roker’s eldest daughter, Courtney, and her husband, Wesley Laga.)

“How cute is that!” Jenna Bush Hager remarked, while Craig Melvin said it was a “great moment” to witness. “Everybody went, ‘Aww!’” Roker said as a photo of Laga holding Sky at the wedding was shown on screen.
Implying he was in attendance at the wedding, Melvin went on to joke that Sky “woke up later on the dance floor.” Roker agreed, stating, “Yes, she did! Yes, she did.”
Fans gushed over Roker’s sweet wedding story via social media. “Aww just adorable. Feel better little one!” one user commented underneath a clip of the on-air discussion shared via Today‘s Instagram page. Another added, “Congratulations Al on your daughter’s wedding.”
Roker and his family have yet to share any wedding ceremony photos via social media, but some have shared glimpses into Leila’s bridal celebrations. “Oh what a time…a week of hellos…goodbyes….celebration…facials…anniversaries…blessings … and just pure joy!” Roker’s wife, Deborah Roberts, captioned Instagram snaps from Leila’s recent trip home to New York City. Among the slideshow of photos was a pic of Leila in a car, holding what looked like a wedding dress garment bag.
On her own Instagram page, Leila shared photos from her NYC bachelorette party and more snaps from her Big Apple visit. (Leila and Gricourt reside in Paris.)
“Best trip back to New York ever,” she wrote on Friday, May 29. The upload‘s first slide featured a sweet snap of Leila and Roberts twinning in white dresses, while another slide showed Leila and her husband holding hands and sporting their wedding bands.
