For many, getting to be on television seems like a dream come true, especailly when you are paid for it. Quite a few people, from actors to reality stars, can earn quite the income from it. However, fans of Alaskan Bush People are starting to wonder just what happened to the money the Brown family would have earned from the series.
Alaskan Bush People Fans Often Wondered How Much The Family Was Paid For The Series
On the original Alaskan Bush People series, fans tuned in and saw the Brown family live off the grid in Alaska. However, appearing on the show could have still given them a decent income.
Over the years, this has often become a topic of discussion among fans. In recent years, some fans wonder what happened to the money the family earned from the original show.

During the series’ fourteenth and final season, Screen Rant noted that, “Fans of the Discovery series would like to know how much the family members get paid to do the show, and live their lives on camera.”
According to The U.S. Sun, family patriarch Billy Brown was paid $500,000 each episode. The family’s net worth was said to be $60 million. Similarly, In Touch Weekly claimed that Billy had an estimated net worth of $6 million around the time of his death.
However, various issues impacted just how much each family member earned from the series. After all, some cast members had more involvement with the series than others.
Some Fans Suspect Medical Bills Were An Issue, Especially Without Insurance
Recently, on Reddit, some fans were concerned with what happened to the family’s money. As one fan asked, “So, a few years ago, the ABP were living in BH and were worth approximately $60 million. What happened? Why are they now squatting on private property in Tonasket, Washington?”
One possible theory was that the family’s medical expenses ended up piling up. As one fan wrote, “They also had A LOT of medical issues between Billy and Amy. Without insurance it’s expensive.” Another fan wasn’t so sure, noting, “60 million buys a lot of medical care and insurance.”

The U.S. Sun touched on this, noting, at the time of Billy’s death. he owed $27,000 in medical bills. It was also noted his estate was worth $412,000 at the time of his death.
As previously reported, back in 2023, members of the family joined the Cameo service, which specialized in personalized videos. At the time, there was concern this meant the family was having money troubles.
On the Reddit post, other fans took to the comments and share their own ideas on what happened. Others questioned the family’s financial situation on the show. These comments included:
- “I’m going to guess that huge boat they bought (and hilariously sunk) costed a good bit of money. Also who knows how that family spent their money. Probably not the smartest when it came to finances.”
- “Every time I see them standing in the cold rain, I think about how glad I am to have a warm house, I would be beyond f****** miserable if that were me.”
