‘Below Deck Down Under’: Who Will Replace Chef Ryan?

TV Shows

Below Deck Down Under Chef Ryan McKeown is at risk of losing his job. He’s been slammed for his ego and poor cooking skills. Ryan admitted that he doesn’t want to put much effort into his dishes. He’s proved that with the latest episode of the Peacock original, which aired on Thursday, May 26.

Their latest charter guests were from Great Britain. They booked an overnight trip on the Thalassa. The British group hoped to get luxury dining, in the same vein as “high tea,” which is common in their country.

According to The Spruce Eats, high tea is an afternoon tea that places the emphasis on finger sandwiches, lemon curds, Marmalade, scones, and herbed butter. Ryan put his nose up to the idea. He thinks people who want “high tea” are not all that sophisticated.

He wanted to make tacos and chocolate fondue with strawberries and store-bought marshmallows. The guests were not impressed, which led to more problems with Captain Jason Chambers.

Chef Ryan is on Captain Jason’s naughty list

For much of Below Deck Down Under, chef Ryan has been on Captain Jason’s naughty list. The two argued in the galley earlier in the season. Ryan said he refuses to listen to the captain. He wants to do what he wants to do.

The restaurant chef also refuses to listen to the preferences of the guests. He huffs at them under his breath and calls them names. Ryan says he doesn’t want to work hard because of his father who owned a pizza restaurant when he was a little boy. His father died from a heart attack after working hard to keep his business running.

As a result, Ryan doesn’t want to put any effort into his work. Some Below Deck Down Under fans have to wonder what he’s doing there in the first place. Others wonder if he’s really gone to culinary school. Ryan’s LinkedIn profile doesn’t possess any previous yachting experience.

It’s any wonder how he got on the show. Since the start of Season 1 of Below Deck Down Under, he claims that he’s worked his way up the food industry. However, he doesn’t explain how exactly he ended up yachting. His attitude combined with his lack of passion has caused problems in and out of the galley.

Below Deck Down Under chef next to get fired?

There was a lot of conversation about firings in the latest episode of Below Deck Down Under. Earlier in the episode, deckhand Benny “Ben” Crawler had issues with boatswain Jamie Sayed. However, Captain Jason doesn’t think it was a good idea to get rid of him. He just wants Benny to prove himself.

Later in that episode, Captain Jason called third stew Magda Ziomek to the bridge. After his discussion with chief stew Aesha Scott, he decided to let her go. Not only did she rack up the yacht crew’s shared data plan, but she also slacked off at her job. Magda spent most of her time on her phone, texting her boyfriend.

It looks like Ryan is next. Captain Jason still hasn’t found a chef to replace him. Yet, the episode ended with him talking to Ryan in the galley. Then the words “to be continued” flashed on the screen.

Who could replace Chef Ryan?

Some Below Deck Down Under fans wondered if Chef Leon Walker could be replacing Ryan. In June 2021, when the show was filming, Leon was spotted walking onto that same yacht. Ryan has also been trolling fans about his firing on Instagram. However, this rumor is untrue as Leon was just paying a visit to the crew.

According to the Below Deck Uncensored Facebook group, Nate Post could be Ryan’s replacement. He’s an experienced “superyacht chef” that makes him the perfect fit for the show. He will also offer Below Deck Down Under fans some more eye candy.
