Julie Chen Moonves is a serious reporter, so when it came to Big Brother, she admits that she had no idea how to host the show. It was so bad that she was nearly fired, and the series was almost canceled. So, how did both of these things never happen? Keep reading for more details on what she had to say.
Julie Chen Moonves & Big Brother Almost Canceled
For almost three decades, Big Brother and Julie Chen Moonves have been synonymous with each other. She has been the hostess with the mostest, introducing viewers to the houseguests, checking in on them, doing challenges, and more. Yet, there was a time when it looked like she was going to get fired and someone else would say, “Hello, houseguests.” When the show first began, Julie admitted that this was not working out. Therefore, she was convinced she would be fired.

As she explained, this hosting gig was very different from what she was used to in the past:
“I’m like, do they just open the door and go home? How does this work? And they had borrowed me from news. I was doing morning news and I’m like, ‘My career is over.’”
She had no idea what she was doing, and it was very clear to everyone. So much so that her firing was called for:
“People from 60 Minutes were like, ‘They should fire her right away from news and just put a stamp on her and ship her out to the West Coast and be part of CBS Entertainment. She’s blurring the lines between news and entertainment.’ And now I’m like, expect the unexpected!”
Julie Chen Moonves, as well as Big Brother, have exceeded everyone’s expectations. It was believed that the show would get the axe after Season 1. Now, it is headed toward Season 28, and fans are obsessed. No one could have anticipated how well it would do, or how she would adjust to hosting, but it has become a phenomenon.
A Big Part Of The Show
Love her or hate her, Julie Chen Moonves is a huge part of Big Brother. Viewers cannot imagine the series without her hosting it, and they have made this very clear:
Not everyone cares for her, and she is not everyone’s cup of tea. However, at the end of the day, Julie makes the show what it is.
