Bill Maher just eviscerated President Donald Trump‘s new “Pledge of Allegiance” that he introduced at the Republican midterm convention.
In the Friday, September 11 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the late-night host, 70, took aim at the POTUS, 80, during his opening monologue.
“This really happened this week in America, which used to be a real country,” Maher began. “At the convention, he made everybody put their hand up and do a new Pledge of Allegiance.
The stand-up comedian then read what Trump had Republican midterm convention attendees recite: “I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States, that loves us so much, he can’t even breathe, that I will go out with my family, my friends [to vote]. I’ll do it anyway. I don’t care if I’m registered or not. I’m gonna try and cheat like hell like they do.”
Maher jokingly added, “With liberty and justice for all.”
(Later, Trump warned, “You know what happens if you don’t vote? You go to hell.”)
“I got nothing anymore,” a defeated Maher pointed out.
He continued, “And of course, Trump had to claim that the convention hall was packed even though, if you ignored the empty seats, yes, it did look packed. Of course! You went against football! You went against the opening two nights of football. Wow, the one thing that people still watch on television.”
Additionally, Maher pointed out that the Republican midterm convention brought in “less than what [Sean] Hannity and [Greg] Gutfeld get on a regular night.”
He then declared, “And I’m the low-ratings dummy?!”
