9-1-1 has reached a season that’s not so common anymore: its 10th. The first responder returns on Thursday, October 15, and the cast and crew are officially back in production.
On Thursday, August 13, ABC released a behind-the-scenes video, which you can watch below, of the cast celebrating just that on set. Angela Bassett — don’t you love Athena’s new look for her new role as a detective? — kicks off the video with, “Hey guys, we’re back in production on Season 10 9-1-1. We’re so excited. I can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.”
Aisha Hinds (Hen), Corinne Massiah (May), and Anirudh Pisharody (Ravi) also pop up to note the start of production. “We cannot wait for you to see the craziness,” Massiah adds.
Kenneth Choi (Chimney) and Jennifer Love Hewitt (Maddie) then use some emojis — including ones for anguish, screaming, and crying — to describe the season. In other words, 9-1-1 Season 10 is going to be exactly what we expect after the first nine.
The series regulars not in the video are Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, and Elijah M. Cooper. It could mean that they were off filming a scene (or off work the day this was filmed). But if Buck, Eddie, and Harry were at a call, why wouldn’t Hen and Chimney be there? Buck and Eddie could be teaching Harry, who is the youngest member of the 118, or it’s possible that there’s an upcoming scene with Buck and Eddie talking about the former fostering Theo after he took in his late friends’ son whom they had using his sperm.
After the Season 9 finale, Stark told TV Insider that he thought that moving forward, we could see Buck dealing with “the foster system and the difficulties and will we have to fight for him or why is nobody else fostering him, where is his extended family?” Part of that could include leaning on those around him with kids, especially Eddie who has experience as a single father.
However, Stark also noted that he didn’t know if Buck will be a “father” to Theo “as much as [a] foster parent,” stressing that his character hasn’t adopted the young kid.
Not only has 9-1-1 reached double-digit seasons, it’s also done so with most of the original cast still on the show. Bassett, Hinds, Choi, and Stark have been series regulars since the first season. (Peter Krause was also part of the original cast, until Bobby was tragically killed off in Season 8.) Hewitt and Guzman joined as series regulars in Season 2. Massiah recurred in Season 1, was a regular from Seasons 2 through 6, then became a regular again in Season 9. Cooper took over the role of Harry in Season 7 and became a regular in Season 9.
