California fires delay the reboot premiere of Hollywood Squares as it seems inappropriate to air the show amid the wildfires in Los Angeles. Keep reading to find out why.
Hollywood Squares
Hollywood Squares is an American game show where two contestants play tic-tac-toe against celebrities seated at desks on a 3×3 cube board. The show’s regular series debuted on NBC in 1966 and ran until 1980. Peter Marshall hosted the original version of Hollywood Squares from 1966 to 1981. Nate Burleson is hosting the reboot of the game show in 2025, with the actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore taking center square. Each square on the contestant’s board is occupied by a different celebrity. The contestants are then asked the celebrity’s questions and must decide whether the celebrity’s answer is correct or not. Other celebrities who will be joining Drew Barrymore are Tyra Banks, Julie Bowen, Yvette Nicole Brown, Whitney Cummings, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Tiffany Haddish, Oliver Hudson, Pete Holmes, Gabriel Iglesias, and many more.
Airing Delay
CBS made a last-minute decision to delay the premiere of the show because of the wildfires in LA. Hollywood Squares will now premiere next Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 8/7c. Airing of the show seemed inappropriate during the ongoing California devastation and the game show wanted the comedy-driven dynamic to be attributed during this time. Following the series premiere on the 16th, CBS reboot will move to Wednesdays starting January 29, 2025. The show will air as part of CBS Game Night. The NBA also postponed their game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets on Thursday as a result of the wildfires. The NHL has reported a game that has been postponed to be played in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Kings were scheduled to host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. The date for the rescheduled games has not been announced yet.
Wild Fires
The wildfires in Los Angeles, California have killed at least 10 people and forced 180,000 people from their homes. The Palisades Fire has burned through almost 20,000 acres. More than 30 square miles, and has destroyed an estimated 5,000 structures. It was 6% contained tonight. The latest brush fire, the Kenneth Fire, emerged yesterday afternoon in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles, near Calabasas, prompting more evacuations.
