CBS Addresses Claim That Joe Rogan Was Up For ’60 Minutes’

- Advertisment -

Throughout his career, Joe Rogan is best known to many for his podcast series. However, rumors recently came out that there could have been a CBS News role in his future. Since the story came out, CBS has addressed these claims. This also comes out amid major shakeups at CBS News and 60 Minutes.

Joe Rogan Originally Launched His Namesake Podcast In 2009

Rogan has worn many hates throughout his career, from television host to UFC color commentator. To many, however, Rogan is best known for his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. This series has been one of Spotify’s most-streamed podcasts since 2020, having originally launched on Ustream in 2009.

Rogan was recently the subject of rumors claiming that CBS News was interested in bringing him on. This came out as the network has been undergoing a massive overhaul, with multiple figures coming, leaving, and gaining new positions at the network.

In particular, rumors claimed that CBS News was considering Rogan for 60 Minutes. This followed Anderson Cooper announcing his own departure from the news program.

At the time, insiders told Radar Online that “You bring in Rogan and you immediately gain a core connection to over 50 percent of the country. He speaks to viewers who feel ignored or mocked by legacy media. That could solve the ratings and credibility problems of CBS overnight.” However, a source also felt that the idea was a “gamble.”

As previously reported, sources also made similar claims with Rob Shuter. On his Substack, however, he noted that it would not be financially viable for Rogan to take the deal, feeling he makes more as a podcaster than with whatever CBS News could offer. Any interest could instead come from “influence.”

Viewers Have Seen Multiple Figures Leave 60 Minutes Over The Past Few Weeks Alone

However, the network has since denied the report. According to The Austin American-Statesman. it was shared, “A CBS News spokesperson said in an official statement to the American-Statesman that reports on Rogan joining the network are ‘false.’” Rogan himself has not commented on the rumor.

Over the past few weeks, viewers have seen a number of figures leave 60 Minutes. In addition to Cooper, this has since included Scott Pelley, Tanya Simon, Sharyn Alfonsi, and Cecilia Vega.

Notably, this comes out as the program is expected to enter its 59th season this upcoming October. In another recent update, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker, and Jon Wertheim also shared that they would remain CBS correspondents in a joint statement.

As noted by CNN Business, the three shared, “If we can continue doing the work that made this show what it is — committing acts of independent, fearless journalism and storytelling — we’re here for it. If not, we leave.” In addition, they expressed their desire to “try to repair and preserve” the show’s reputation.
