Elisabeth Hasselbeck Served As A Guest Host On CBS Mornings For A Three-Day Stint

Hasselbeck first rose to fame as a contestant on the second season of Survivor on CBS. She later gained wider notoriety as a co-host on The View from 2003 to 2013.

Recently, Hasselbeck served as a guest host on CBS Mornings, from June 15-17. During his first episode, she joined Gayle King and Nate Burleson for an interview with Billy Porter.

At the time, Porter was asked about his work in an off-Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles. Porter noted that the play was the basis for the 1996 film, The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.

Porter shared, “It’s about a queer couple who run a nightclub, and their straight son gets engaged to a straight woman whose parents are essentially the conservative folks. It’s heartwarming, t’s lovely, it’s loving, and it’s a fabulous show.”

Hasselbeck Appeared To Address The Criticism While Playing The Clip During An Instagram Story Share

During the conversation, Hasselbeck mused, “In the little tease, you talked about not really being a sports person. I’m not really a drag person, but I’m a person person. And so, we get to be who we are, and I love that about our world.”

However, the comment sparked some backlash on social media, especially with the clip being shared on the show’s Instagram page. As one commenter wrote, “She HAS to go out of her way to say she’s ‘not a drag person.’ Gross.”

Following this, Hasselbeck appeared to address the backlash during an Instagram Story. In her share, she included a clip of her and Porter together. Underneath this was a caption reading, “Let’s normalize being truthful about what we are. And still being loving toward one another,” adding a yellow heart emoji. The post also appeared in her Reels, crediting CBS for the clip.

As Variety previously reported, Hasselbeck is one to several guest-hosts that the network is testing on-air. There had previously been speculation that the network was trying out talent to bring onto the show on a more permanent basis, with other outlets describing Hasselbeck as being “tapped” by Bari Weiss.
