Recently, McMahon spoke about her exit while speaking at the Status Summit. At the time, she dubbed the Trump administration lawsuit concerning the network, following a Kamala Harris interview that was alleged to be edited, which was settled after her exit, “frivolous.”

McMahon shared, “My last year at CBS News, Stations and Syndication was largely spent defending, protecting, standing up for and oftentimes fighting for the editorial independence of ’60 Minutes.’”

The Former CEO Expressed Support Towards Those Claiming There Was Interference Behind The Scenes On 60 Minutes

McMahon admitted that she couldn’t confirm all alleged behind-the-scenes stories of interference that has since been surrounding the program. However, she shared support for those sharing these stories. She expressed, “I think it’s deeply concerning to have colleagues I trust, some in the room here today, saying so very directly and so very plainly that they experienced editorial interference firsthand. I wasn’t there, but I trust them completely in that.”

As McMahon continued, she weighed in on the changes that have taken place at 60 Minutes since the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief, especially as commenters have shared concern for the program’s future. She felt that these concerns were valid, but felt it was at least too early to see if 60 Minutes was ultimately coming to an end as things were.

Listing the questions that have come to mind, McMahon shared, “Am I concerned that the DNA of ’60 Minutes’ is being rewritten in real time. Am I concerned that, in the quest to transform, that the problem has been misdiagnosed? And we are potentially changing, dismantling, the very thing we are meant to protect? Yes. I am absolutely concerned, but I will stop short of weighing in on the death of ’60 Minutes’ until I see this next ’60 Minutes.’”
