Since Bari Weiss joined CBS News as its editor-in-chief, viewers have seen a number of changes occur at the network. This includes many figures making their exit and others switching roles. However, reports have recently discussed some new talent she is bringing to the network.
Bari Weiss Was Reportedly Recently In London, Looking For Talent
Before joining CBS News, Weiss was known for founding the media company, The Free Press, previously known as Common Sense. In addition, she served as an editor and writer for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Back in October, Weiss became CBS News’ editor-in-chief following Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of The Free Press. At the time, Weiss had no previous experience with broadcast journalism prior to the move.
Over the past few months, many changes have occurred at the network. Some figures have changed roles, such as Tony Dokoupil going from CBS Mornings to CBS Evening News. Many have been making their exit from the network’s programs. Over the past month, multiple figures have left 60 Minutes, including Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega, Tanya Simon, and Anderson Cooper.
According to Deadline, Weiss has recently recruited talent from other prominent outlets. This includes hiring Daily Mail reporter Josh Boswell and veteran ABC News producer Cho Park. Both will work for the network’s investigative unit, the I-Team.
Boswell has built a reputation for politically charged exclusives and investigations. This has included stories like Hunter Biden’s laptop to reports on UFOs. Park, meanwhile, had worked on investigations including racial discrimination in the NFL’s concussion settlement program, allegations of abuse in sports, and environmental hazards.
This Comes Days After CBS News Tapped British Broadcaster Sir Trevor Phillips
Matthew Mosk, CBS News’ senior investigative editorial director and head of the I-Unit, wrote to staff, “We are deeply committed to this in-depth reporting because it delivers on our promise to give viewers something they can’t find elsewhere. And on all platforms.”
The move also comes out just days after CBS News recruited British broadcaster Sir Trevor Phillips as a senior global affairs correspondent. At the time, Weiss shared, “Trevor Phillips cuts through the noise. His decades-long career is a masterclass in seeing beyond groupthink and pursuing the truth.”
As the outlet reported, Weiss recently spent time in London. She was reportedly meeting with journalists she views as independent thinkers who want to challenge conventional wisdom. As a source shared at the time, “Trevor may be the first of several UK hires.”
