CBS News’ Gayle King ‘Not Happy’ Over Bari Weiss Decision

- Advertisment -

Multiple changes have occurred at CBS News over the past few months since the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief. Since that time, various figures have spoken out about the changes at the network. Recently, an insider discussed rumors concerning Gayle King’s feelings over a certain decision-in-the-making.

CBS Mornings Could See Changes Coming Over The Next Few Months

King joined CBS This Morning after leaving her own namesake show, The Gayle King Show, in 2011. She has continued in her role on the show as co-anchor as it transitioned to CBS Mornings.

Meanwhile, Bari Weiss was named editor-in-chief of CBS News in October 2025. This came about after Paramount Skydance bought her independent media outlet, The Free Press.

Since Weiss joined the network, various staffers and insiders have spoken out about what is going on behind the scenes. Recently, an insider claimed that King in particular isn’t too happy about one change Weiss is reportedly considering.

A rumor claims that Weiss is considering bringing former anchor Norah O’Donnell back to the show. This comes out alongside rumors that Weiss wants to revamp the program to make it more like MS NOW’s Morning Joe.

Speaking with The New York Post, a source claimed that King wasn’t happy about promos for the show that included O’Donnell, who has been substituting periodically. The insider shared, “Gayle was not happy. She does not want Norah to return to the show.”

Gayle King Was Said To Be Central To Choosing A New Co-Host

King and O’Donnell previously co-anchored the morning show from 2012 to 2019. However, another source described them as “frenemies,” sharing that they had a strained relationship. Explaining their differences, the source shared, “Gayle is an authentic person. She loves the news. Norah loves the idea of being on the news.”

A network source also highlighted that King is central to “the process of finding a new co-host.” It was noted that “nothing will happen without her blessing.”

While O’Donnell appears to be a top contender, she isn’t necessarily the one figure being considered to join the morning show. As the Status noted, other figures include Eva Pilgrim, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and CBS News anchor Kelly O’Grady. Reportedly, a permanent co-host could be named as soon as September.

As the outlet noted, CBS Mornings reportedly has been having a hard time attracting viewers in recent months. The program reportedly hit a low point earlier this summer, only earning an average of 1.59 million viewers during the week of July 13. During this time, King and Nate Burleson were hosting.
