Celine Dion Gives Rare Interview With Hoda Kotb After Illness

TV Shows

Canadian singer Celine Dion has largely kept a low profile after a string of heartaches over the past several years. Her husband Rene Angelil passed away in 2016 after battling throat cancer. Then in 2022, she received a frightening health diagnosis that threatened her own life.

After a long and arduous health journey, Celine Dion is ready to share her own story with the world. See what she had to share with Today anchor Hoda Kotb.

Hoda Kotb Interviews Celine Dion Post-Diagnosis

In December 2022, Celine Dion publicly announced she had stiff-person syndrome. As per Johns-Hopkins, this condition is classified as, “a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that most commonly causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms that come and go and can worsen over time. However, some people experience other symptoms such as an unsteady gait, double vision or slurred speech.”

There currently isn’t a cure for the condition, but people like Celine Dion often benefit from specialized care to manage their symptoms.

Fans have sincerely missed the singer since she stepped out of the spotlight to manage her health. And now, they will get a chance to hear from Celine herself in a new interview. Today anchor Hoda Kotb revealed she spoke with the Canadian singer in a “rare” interview.

“I went to Las Vegas to interview Celine Dion,” Hoda excitedly shared during a recent episode of Today. “It’s a really rare conversation that she and I had.”

The Singer Is Ready To Tell Her Story

Us Weekly shares that fans can catch the interview during a primetime special on June 11 at 10 PM Eastern time. During the session, Celine also spoke up about her documentary, I Am Celine Dion, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video on June 25.

“It was so jarring to me and moving that I couldn’t believe what they were able to capture in that documentary,” the anchor told viewers. “Celine Dion at some point — she is now much better — but at some point, she almost died, which is something that she says.”

Although fans are delighted to know that the singer is in better health, many have wondered about her voice. Hoda added that she and Celine touched on that very subject.
