Going through a divorce can be one of the most challenging times in a person’s life. And it really seems like DWTS pro Cheryl Burke did everything in her power to make her marriage to Matthew Lawrence work. It just simply wasn’t meant to be.
It seems like Cheryl is ready to move on with her life and even recently started up her own podcast about dating after divorce. But she wants her fans to know that she earnestly did try with Matthew Lawrence — they even went to couples counseling.

Cheryl Burke wholeheartedly believes in the power of therapy
PEOPLE reports that Tamron Hall sat down with Cheryl Burke to discuss some more details of her private life. Although Cheryl is a little sad that her three-year marriage is over, she doesn’t feel that she has any regrets. Deep down, she knows she did everything she could to save the marriage, including therapy.
“I’m a huge advocate for therapy,” Cheryl told Tamron Hall. “I truly believe in it. Matt and I, we definitely, we were in couple’s therapy, even before our marriage. I think people associate therapy with like, ‘Oh my god, there’s a problem.’”
The 38-year-old professional dancer has faced many challenges throughout her life and is a recovering alcoholic. Therapy has helped her get back on her feet and keep moving forward.
“But really I think it’s very healthy to have that third person there that’s not biased and that can give you ways and tools on how to communicate,” she went on to say. “I don’t regret any of that. I think that was very helpful for both of us.”
Matthew Lawrence and Cheryl Burke filed for divorce back in January, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the split. Neither Matthew nor Cheryl have given any specifics, but it seems as if the two just simply grew apart.

As far as the podcast goes, Cheryl Burke is ready to explore life and find love again. She opened up to PEOPLE about her decision to launch Burke In The Game.
“This is the first time I think anyone, including myself, is going to see or hear me be as vulnerable as I have to be,” she told the publication in an exclusive interview. “I’m always hiding behind the mirror ball.”
She wants to use her podcast to break down her barriers and get really vulnerable with her audience members as she explores dating after divorce. The podcast is available now on iHeartRadio.
