From the looks of these photos, things are going to get pretty weird over on Netflix this October when Sacrifice arrives. The streamer has revealed the first images from the new film, by Romain Gavras, and they’ve got a little something for everyone: Chris Evans looking terrified in a celebrity photo line, Anya Taylor-Joy wearing a mullet, Charli XCX channeling Mother Nature, and so much more.
Here’s what we know about Sacrifice so far.
When does Sacrifice premiere?
The film hits Netflix in the U.S. and France on Friday, October 16.
Who stars in Sacrifice?
The full cast list for the film includes Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Vincent Cassel, Ambika Mod, Sam Richardson, Jonatan “Yung Lean” Leandoer, Jade Croot, Miriam Silverman, John Malkovich, and Salma Hayek Pinault. It’s directed by Gavras from a script he cowrote with Will Arbery.
What is Sacrifice about?
The official description for the pic tells us, “During a star-studded charity gala brimming with celebrities, billionaires, and empty speeches, a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis (Chris Evans) is taken hostage by a radical warrior (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her devoted followers. As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur.”
Netflix’s Tudum also gives additional details, explaining that the film “combines a theatrical plot with grounded cynicism about the performance of wealth and charity galas, as well as an earnest exploration of faith.” The event is driven, it seems, by a cult leader’s belief that if people aren’t sacrificed to a volcano, an extinction-level event is imminent.
