The CNN NewsNight panel broke into laughter on Wednesday night (August 5) after former actress Caroline Sunshine called Democrats “cringe” for continuing to ask about the 2020 presidential election.
Host Abby Phillip began the segment by showing a montage of clips of President Trump judicial nominees dodging the question of who won the 2020 election between Trump and Joe Biden.
This included assistant antitrust attorney general nominee Adam Candeub, U.S. Sentencing Commission nominee John Cronan, and U.S. judge for the Northern District of Alabama nominee Gregory Cook, all of whom refused to answer the simple “yes or no” question.
“That’s just silly,” Phillip said after playing the clips. “It’s kind of dumb. I’m not going to lie. Like, are we really going to do this?”
Sunshine, a former Disney Channel actress who served as a White House staffer under President Trump in 2018, responded to the clip, saying, “It’s so cringe watching these Democrats do this line of questioning.”
The panel erupted in laughter, many shocked that Sunshine chose to turn this on the Democrats rather than the Republicans, who continued to skirt the question.
“That’s what’s cringe?” Phillip asked before laughing.
As the panel started to shout over each other, Sunshine said, “It’s like watching a band from the 80s who’s like, ‘Hey guys, we’re gonna play our greatest hits.’ And you’re like, ‘OK, you guys were good in the 80s.’ Now there’s no crowd, nobody cares, they’re wearing the tight leather jeans. And you’re like, ‘Wow, you guys are has-beens. This is all you have, huh?’”
Phillip then posed the question to Sunshine, asking, “Hey, Caroline, who won the 2020 election?”
“Oh, Joe Biden,” the Shake It Up alum replied, before adding, “But it was rigged by big tech!”
Again, the panel couldn’t contain their laughter as Sunshine continued her rant, talking about Mark Zuckerberg and White House UFC events.
