Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy delivered their son on January 10, 2023. He will be a month old in about a week and fans still don’t know what they decided to name their son. Jenna was spotted wearing an “R” necklace, leading many to believe that the baby’s name starts with that letter.
There are still a lot of unknowns about the newborn, but the couple has given some hints on how they will raise the child.
While Jenna grew up in Utah, Val was born in Ukraine and spent several years of his childhood there. The Chmerkovskiys later immigrated to the United States. But since Val spent many of his formative years in Eastern Europe, he speaks fluent Russian. And so, they’ve decided to raise their son bilingual.
Jenna Johnson wants to feel more connected to her husband and son
Although Jenna and Val still haven’t revealed many details about their son, they are starting to share more photos of him on social media. The newborn frequently makes appearances on Jenna’s Instagram story, but they haven’t shown his face yet.
It will be quite some time until the baby starts to speak, but Jenna and Val are determined to teach their son both Russian and English. The 28-year-old dancer explained it all in an advertisement for Babbel she did on her Instagram page.
“Feeling more motivated than ever to learn Russian so we can both speak the language with our son as he grows up!” Jenna captioned an Instagram story from earlier in the week.
In the video, she discussed how important it was to Val for their son to share his mother tongue. But at the same time, Jenna was worried about feeling left out. That’s why she was also starting to learn Russian so everyone in the family could share the language.
For now, fans are just hoping to learn more about baby Chmerkovskiy. Perhaps when he turns one month old, his parents will share more.
There’s another “Baby Chmerkovskiy” on the way
Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy became parents in January, but they aren’t the only ones in the family to welcome home a new baby. Val’s older brother Maks Chmerkovskiy and his wife Peta Murgatroyd will welcome their second child this June.
The family couldn’t be happier, but Maks did admit in an interview they were keeping things more low-key this time. This is their rainbow baby following a string of tragic miscarriages.
“It’s a lot more mature adult process. We’re at the moment of, let’s calmly celebrate together, let’s just make sure this happens first,” the Ukrainian dancer told Distractify. “We’ve done that, ‘Hey, baby, I’m pregnant!’ thing before, and then it didn’t work. So it wasn’t really about finding out that we were pregnant. It’s now about finding out that, you know, this is a healthy, successful, and easy pregnancy.”
