Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, better known by his stage name, “Macklemore,” is a rapper who started his career in 2000. He later rose to fame with Ryan Lewis as the duo, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Recently, Macklemore performed as the opening act and special guest for Ed Sheeran during his North American “LOOP Tour.” This was set to run through September and October 2026.
However, while opening for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Macklemore recently sparked outrage after calling to “Free Palestine” on stage. He also performed his anti-Israel song “Hind’s Hall.”
Since the moment, various figures have spoken out against the moment, with many calling for Macklemore’s removal from the tour. As one commenter shared on X, in a post that went viral, “I brought my wife and two daughters to MetLife Friday because we are huge fans of yours.”

The post continued, “We arrived early, I spent $180 on two sweatshirts for them, watched the first two opening acts and were having a great time. Then Macklemore decided to turn your concert into his political rally.”
Noting that he looked into “Macklemore’s history,” the commentator shared, “You have a lot of Jewish fans who love your music, buy your albums and merchandise, and bring their kids to your concerts. Tonight, you lost four of them. And I suspect plenty more.”

In a post on X, actor Michael Rapaport wrote, “Imagine going to see Ed Sheeran & this absolute no talent none singer non rapping non dancing clown Macklemore is opening & because he actually has no act or specific skill set he’s jumping around like dkc carrying on about a genocide that never happened in Gaza. This is a nightmare.”

Musician Pink also took to her Instagram Stories to criticize the scene. At the time, she wrote, “Jewish fans bought tickets to see Ed Sheeran sing last night in NJ, not to be ambushed by Macklemore’s anti-Israel propaganda. Instead, Macklemore walked onstage in a keffiyeh, shouted ‘Free Palestine,’ accused Israel of a false “genocide,” and turned a mainstream event into a political nightmare against the Jewish state. Concertgoers are owed apologies and refunds.”
