Disgraced daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is ready for a comeback. During a rare public appearance, she spoke out about a potential return to TV. The timing comes just weeks after Kelly Clarkson’s daytime show went off the air for good. Keep reading for all the details on Ellen’s comeback attempt.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show Ended After Shocking Claims
During its heyday, The Ellen DeGeneres Show was the most-watched daytime program. It won multiple awards throughout the years. It ended in 2022 after 19 seasons. While Ellen DeGeneres said it was her decision to end the show, the shocking claims made by staffers tarnished the show’s legacy forever.
Multiple staffers went public in 2020 with allegations of a toxic work environment on the daytime talk show. The employees detailed shocking claims of racism, retaliation, and fear behind the scenes. Ellen DeGeneres publicly apologized, but the damage was done. She announced in 2021 that the next season would be the last.
Several celebrities shared stories of mistreatment as guests on the daytime show after the staffers spoke out. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Ross, moved to England in 2024. However, they purchased a home in California in late 2025, giving the first hint that Ellen DeGeneres was looking for a comeback.
Ellen DeGeneres Makes Rare Appearance Amid Comeback Attempt
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife split their time between the UK and the United States. The comedian made a rare public appearance on BBC’s The Graham Norton Show earlier this week.
Ellen DeGeneres candidly admitted that she missed her old life. “I’ve nothing really going on and I really miss being on TV. I miss a lot about it — laughing with the writers and the audience,” she said.
She added that she’s considering making a comeback on television in England instead of the U.S. “I think it is pretty easy to get on TV here. You have a pottery show, you have a sewing show, and you even have a show about people watching TV shows,” Ellen joked.
The actress also addressed the cancellation of her sitcom, Ellen. She infamously came out on the show both as her character and as herself. The show was canceled a year later after a steep decline in ratings.
“In the U.S., they were not very thrilled about my character or me coming out, so for it to be celebrated in London was such an honor. To be treated that way when everyone else was done with me was extraordinary,” she told Graham Norton.
Ellen DeGeneres posted about her appearance on the talk show on Instagram. She received a lot of comments encouraging her to stage a comeback. So, don’t be surprised if you see her back on television soon, either in the UK or in the U.S. Tell us in the comments if you think it’s time for her to return to TV.
