What To Know

  • Euphoria star Anna Van Patten opens up about filming the finale’s Silver Slipper shootout.
  • She discusses the process of wearing prosthetics in character, and shares what she thinks was next for her character Kitty.

Euphoria‘s third season introduced fans to the Silver Slipper, which would serve as the ultimate backdrop for the final shootout between Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Rue’s (Zendaya) beloved sponsor, Ali (Colman Domingo). Warning: Spoilers for the Euphoria Season 3 finale ahead!

Playing a key role in the sequence was dancer Kitty (Anna Van Patten), who was tasked by Alamo to roll a wine bottle down the bar counter for it to shatter, marking the start of their modern-day duel. The outcome was ultimately deadly for Alamo, who was no match for Ali’s sawed-off shotgun against his bullet-less revolver, courtesy of Bishop (Darrell Britt-Gibson).

Below, Van Patten opens up about the process of embodying her character, including her prosthetics, and breaks down her crucial role in the pivotal shootout.

When Kitty arrives at the Silver Slipper, Rue shows her a lot of kindness. Do you think she appreciates it or is worried about how that kindness is perceived by Alamo or Magick (Rosalía)?

Anna Van Patten: I think she was caught in that moment. It’s so interesting because looking back at the scene, you realize so much more [was going on], but I think in that moment, Kitty was kind of disassociating and not really thinking deeply of what are Rue’s intentions? She’s just reacting to what Rue is throwing at her, right?

What was it like working closely with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje to create the bond between Kitty and Alamo?

I loved all the scenes I shared with him just because Adewale is just such an amazing actor and a kind human too, he was like the opposite of Alamo. Being in a scene with him, you just felt so powerful. So I really enjoyed those days, and I think their relationship is kind of different from Alamo and the other dancers at the club. Alamo likes her, maybe because she is a bit more naive, right? But at the same time, he definitely sees her as a way to make more money, and he’s also a very dark and dangerous character.

Speaking of ways to make more money, Kitty is sent over the border into Mexico, where she gets plastic surgery. What prosthetic process was involved in showing off those modifications?

That was a whole other experience. The prosthetic chapter of my Euphoria experience was wild. I first had to get a butt scan and [then], because we shot that Silver Slipper shootout scene… it was a 10-day shoot, so I wore [a prosthetic butt] every day for 10 days, and it would take maybe two hours to put on. At the end of day 10, it got a lot faster, but I had to stand up while getting it and wasn’t really allowed to sit down all day, so they built me a leaning contraption that I would just kind of lean one while I wasn’t [filming].

That’s so wild!

Yeah, it was really challenging, but at the same time, it was so funny in a way. So many people thought it was real. The girls in the club, they thought it was my real butt, so in person, it really did look so real… they drew on veins, drew on freckles, it was the whole process, but it was fascinating.

How was it filming the shootout sequence, especially considering Kitty’s key role?

A lot of it was so technical because there’s so many stunts and guns and blood, that we did it in chapters, and I’m so amazed how it turned out because it’s just such a long process, but it was so fun to be there and watch, especially Coleman act, cause he’s just so amazing, and everyone watching those two have that standoff was… I could watch it all day.

Do you think Kitty knew what happened to Rue, or does she not think about the girls who go missing around her?

I don’t think she would have known what happened to Rue. I think Kitty really tries to see the best in people, and I think lots of people aren’t telling her things. So she’s left to figure it all out on her own, and she doesn’t know where to put her trust because so many different things are happening.

Did Kitty go to live with Cassie in her big house and work with Maddy?

I saw that Kitty’s name is on the wall in Cassie’s house, and I have no idea if that’s my character, but that’s really fun to think about if maybe that’s in her future. I don’t know what the future has in store for her, but I think it’s a really good sign that she’s leaving with Maddy and Bishop.
