Jodie Sweetin played the middle sister on ABC’s Full House sitcom. The character’s younger sister, Michelle Tanner, was played by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. But the twins didn’t take part in Netflix’s reboot of the popular sitcom. Jodie Sweetin opened up about the drama of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen refusing to join the Netflix reboot and where they stand now. Keep reading for all the details.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Shun Full House Reboot

Full House followed Danny Tanner as he navigated being a widower raising three young children on his own with the help of his brother-in-law, Jesse, and longtime pal, Joey. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were just 9 months old when the show began. Many TV shows use twins to play babies or toddlers due to child labor laws.

The twins were 8 when the show went off the air. Mary-Kate and Ashley went on to star in over a dozen movies. However, they stepped away from acting in 2004 to focus on fashion. The twins launched their fashion brand, Row, in 2006. They’re notoriously reclusive and private.

So, when nostalgia hit and Netflix called about a reboot, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen weren’t interested. The rest of the cast reunited without them. Fuller House poked fun at the Olsen twins a few times during its 5-season run.

Jodie Sweetin maintained close relationships with some of her co-stars, including John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, and Dave Coulier. Most of the cast attended Bob Saget’s funeral in 2022. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were there, despite not returning for the reboot.

Jodie Sweetin’s relationship with Candace Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner, is somewhat strained due to their difference in opinions on politics. She opened up about where she stands with the Olsen twins during an appearance on Black Eyed Peas member Taboo’s “Comics and Kicks” podcast.

“Everyone’s on good terms with them, but they were 8 years old when this show stopped. Then they did all of those movies and all that stuff that I don’t know that they really loved doing all the time,” Jodie Sweetin said. She pointed out that the Olsen twins were pretty young when the show was filmed and didn’t have the same memories as the older cast.

“They have a different relationship to being on set all the time. They might not remember being 2 years old and having, you know, us all carrying them around and doing this stuff, but I do. That’s not their thing,” she added.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are rarely seen in public. However, they did attend their brother Trent’s wedding in May, along with their sister Elizabeth Olsen. They left acting but are still on good terms with the Full House cast.
