Presently, police told TMZ there is an open investigation into Coolio’s cause of death. Investigators, however, do not believe Coolio’s cause of death is related to foul play as there were reportedly no signs of it at the scene. An official cause of death will be determined after the coroner performs an autopsy.

Per Coolio’s manager Jarez, the singer was at a friend’s house when he died. His manager tells TMZ the rapper went to the bathroom and never came back out. As fans of the rapper know, his real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. He first surfaced in the L.A. rap scene during the late 80s. It, however, wasn’t until 1995 that he made a name for himself when he released his song called “Gangsta’s Paradise” as part of the soundtrack for Michelle Pfeiffer’s movie Dangerous Minds. “Gangsta’s Paradise” rose to #1 where it stayed for three weeks.

Rest in peace, Coolio (Artis Leon Ivey Jr).
