According to her obituary, this is how Mrs. Whitaker was immortalized:

“The motherly Mrs. Whitaker dispensed country wisdom from her farm kitchen in Beecher’s Corners, serving as a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis, as the teenager’s story arc saw her fall in love with Luke Spencer, portrayed by Anthony Geary.”

Fans immediately flocked to Reddit to share their feelings about Beth’s passing. It was amazing how many people remembered her in that role and loved her so much.

  • I’ll be da**ed. To be honest, I figured both actors who played the Whittaker’s had long since passed. Never once thought to check to see if she was still living. Wow. Good, long life, for sure.
  • 92? Wow, that is a good long life!
  • I watched the entire Beechers Corners escapade, so I must have seen her but I don’t have a specific memory of her. She seems to have been very talented, though, and you can’t really expect to live longer than your 90’s. Condolences to her friends, fans and family.

It was quite impressive that she had made it to 92 but apparently, Beth Peters passed after a bout with a short illness. Furthermore, she was clearly appreciated in the role of Mrs. Whitaker which is extremely heartwarming.

A Deep Career

Aside from General Hospital, Beth Peters also was big into the theater. However, she had other television stints on shows such as Mr. Belvedere, Quantum Leap, Beyond Belief, Hart to Hart, Simon and Simon, Highway to Heaven, and The Waltons. She leaves behind a son, Sean Williams, two stepdaughters, Barbara Davison and Monica Lange, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. May her memory be a blessing.
