Jason Morgan recently made his long-awaited return to General Hospital. However, fans noticed that he was looking rather different. Since then, actor Steve Burton has addressed these comments and explained what had happened.
Steve Burton Opened Up About Jason’s Return During A Recent Podcast Episode
Over the years, Burton has been part of a number of soap operas throughout his career. These include Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
However, to many, he is best known as Jason Morgan on General Hospital. First taking on the role in 1991, he recently made his long-awaited return to Port Charles earlier this month.
That said, after his return on July 13, many fans noticed something different about Jason. His hair was shorter and his face appeared covered with bruises, and even a gaunter figure, with some fans saying he looked like he had returned from war. Recently, however, Burton addressed these fans’ comments during his That’s Awesome podcast with Bradford Anderson.
The actor noted that he knew what the upcoming storyline would entail and took advantage of his time off to prepare. He explained that some of the changes were planned.
As Burton noted, “The hair change was intentional. The weight loss was intentional, and the makeup was intentional. It was all intentional because I think I look pretty good right now … I made a conscious decision to go, ‘Hey, I’m going to start kind of just slimming down a little bit’ … so I look a little more emaciated, and then makeup can do what they do.”
General Hospital Fans Have Been Sharing Their Reactions To The Change In Appearance, With Some Even Liking The New Hair
At the time, Burton’s multi-month break from General Hospital allowed him to spend time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom. However, he also made sure to take time to help get into character.
During Burton’s recent return to the soap, Jason first visited the family estate to see his son, Danny. The two then went on a father-son road trip. Even before he appeared, the series implied he would undergo various changes during his time in an international prison.
When the character first returned to the soap, fans shared different reactions to his change in appearance, especially as the soap started sharing clips of Jason’s new stories on social media. Of course, as some fans noted, “different” isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some comments included:
- “What the heck did they do to Jason???”
- “Jason looks different to me.”
- “Who beat my baby’s face?”
- “Not y’all screwing with my Jason again!”
- “I like Jason’s new hair style.”
- I’m so happy Jason’s home. My poor guy has been tortured. I can’t wait to see this story play out! Welcome back Steve Burton and congratulations on your Lead Actor nomination!”
