Good Morning America‘s Janai Norman made her exit from ABC News earlier this year. Since then, fans have been wondering what could be next for the journalist. Recently, she shared an update with fans, revealing that she and her family have left the country.
Janai Norman Shared A Move Across Continents As She Promoted Her Upcoming Memoir
Norman joined the weekend edition of Good Morning America in 2022. She previously started with ABC News as an intern in 2011, returning to the network as a correspondent in 2016.
Back in April, Janai confirmed her departure from the network after ABC News decided not to renew her contract. Her contract was previously set to run through early May 2026. However, she was taken off the air earlier than expected, meaning she did not receive an on-air farewell.
Since then, Norman has shared a life update of sorts with fans. She and her family have moved to South Africa. Taking to Instagram, she shared a post noting that she was “taking a break” from the United States.
Reportedly, Norman and her family have settled into their new home, which appears to be in the area of KwaZulu-Natal province. At the time, Norman has been busy promoting her upcoming memoir, Breaking.

During an Instagram Story, she wrote, “Less than two months out from publication, forcing myself to post daily for 60 days and make use of stories.. On that note, pre-orders are really important. Have you ordered yours?”
Norman also then segued into the news of her family’s move. She explained, “Speaking of breaking, have I mentioned my family is taking a break from the U.S.?” She included a photo of a street along clusters of thin palm trees. She added, “And now we see monkeys all the time,” complete with a photo of monkeys on the side of the road.
On the main platform, back in August, Norman also promoted her upcoming memoir, writing, “New month. New book cover! Breaking has a new meaning, anyway. We’ve broken through. And we’re just getting started.” Included in the post was the book’s cover, which showed Norman smiling above the title. A subtitle could also be read, “News, Barriers, and Stigmas: A Memoir of Choosing Myself.”
