Gwen Stefani and her husband, Blake Shelton, wrote another hit with the recent release of their latest duet, Purple Irises. Recently, the No Doubt singer talked about the true meaning behind the hit song. So, what did she have to say about this latest duet?

Purple Irises Was An Instant Hit With Listeners

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s latest husband-and-wife duet has been a big hit with their fans. Purple Irises dropped with an official lyric video a little over a month ago, and already, it has almost 500k views on YouTube. When you combine those views with the views from the official audio video of the single, that’s almost one million views between both.

Purple Irises has been resonating with listeners, and not just fans of country music, either. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have a unique way of blending both of their styles into one cohesive finished product, and they’ve done this on a number of successful duets so far.

Gwen Stefani Opens Up About The Meaning Behind Hit Song

As with all music, listeners are free to interpret things as they see fit. In general, that’s the beauty of art as a whole. The artist may have something completely different in mind, or may even pull from an entirely different source of inspiration. However, audiences can interpret things in a way that fits them most, and in a way that most applies to where they might currently be in their lives.

As for Gwen Stefani, she recently revealed that the inspiration for Purple Irises was born out of insecurity. More specifically, insecurity over her appearance as she ages, and how that might affect her husband’s level of attraction to her as they both get further along in age.

“And I actually wrote, put it in my phone, and drove into the driveway and went in and started writing this song about being insecure,” the singer said.

Sweet Escape Singer Gets Real About Her Deepest Fears

Purple Irises came out at a critical time for Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. The pair have been facing split rumors for months, with many fans believing they could be on their way to calling it quits. Because this has been the case for them, it makes sense that Gwen would explore topics like insecurity in her music.

According to Gwen Stefani, she is particularly concerned about the idea of someone else getting in the middle and stealing her love away. Gwen’s last marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale ended over a cheating scandal involving the family nanny, so, it’s understandable that she would be insecure about someone else getting in between her and her husband.

Gwen Stefani continued, saying: “I’m getting older. I don’t feel pretty. If I don’t feel pretty, how could someone else think I’m pretty still? What if somebody tries to take my love away from me?”

This raw honesty in her songwriting is a big reason Gwen Stefani has the fan base that she does, and Purple Irises is just the latest in a long catalog of examples that prove why Gwen Stefani is where she is today.
