Recently, Matthew Belloni reported in the Puck newsletter that Paltrow would be hosting a private “off-the-record” dinner at her Hamptons home. This would be held in honor of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. However, the move has since received backlash online.

Paltrow Shared ‘New’ Invitations Referencing All Sorts Of Media, From Shrek To Sex & The City

Belloni wrote, “Invites are going out this week for a ‘private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman.’” He also shared a graphic that appeared to be a formal invitation from Paltrow. The image then went viral, with comedian-activist Matt Bernstein posting a video suggesting that her affiliations with AI amount to “technofascism.”

Since then, however, Paltrow took to Instagram to poke fun at the meme. On the grid and her Instagram Stories, she shared variations of the invitation. The replicas claimed to be in honor of all sorts of fictional figures, including “M3GAN,” “Samantha Jones,” “SHREK,” “Jessica Rabbit” and “Chanty Beluga.” The final figure, “Chanty Beluga,” comes from a viral meme created by comedian Courtney O’Donnell.

Paltrow also kept the joke running with the caption. As she wrote, “We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request.” At this time, Paltrow has not confirmed if the event was still taking place or commented on the validity of the original story.

The invitation has also gone viral for another reason. As journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh wrote on X, the invitation allegedly appeared to be AI-generated. Sardarizadeh shared, “As I don’t know if Gwyneth Paltrow is actually hosting an event for Sam Altman, but I do know that this purported invitation card that’s been going viral is likely AI-generated. According to OpenAI’s own verification tool, the image was created using its AI models.”
