What To Know

  • Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer questioned why law enforcement has not released an enhanced image of the masked suspect.
  • Coffindaffer speculates that authorities may already know the identity of the “Porch Guy.”
  • Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously explained that the investigation is prolonged due to reliance on lab analysis.

As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues well into its fifth month, with no public updates on her whereabouts or potential suspects, a former FBI agent wonders if law enforcement already knows who’s responsible.

On Thursday (June 18), retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, who has been following the case from the start, took to X to ask some pertinent questions about the investigation. Most notably, Coffindaffer asked why the police or the FBI haven’t released the enhanced photo of the masked man caught on camera outside Nancy’s property.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named.

“LE (law enforcement) and the FBI are making no sense,” Coffindaffer wrote. “Where is the enhanced photo of Porch guy. It exists. Why not share with the public for their help?”

She also questioned the billboards featuring Nancy’s photo. “Why is Nancy’s face on them? Put Porch Guy’s face & add Spanish if you want more of the public’s help,” Coffindaffer said before adding, “Or do you know who porch Guy is?”

Coffindaffer continued to push the theory that law enforcement already knows the masked man’s identity, highlighting the lack of public information about the investigation.

“Nothing on any traffic or Ring/Nest cams to distribute after 4 Months? Nothing. It is unfortunately possible,” she wrote. “Finally, 0 searches since day 2? Why? What could it hurt? No contact with Mexican authorities from the beginning-Remember.”

She concluded, “Either LE knows who is responsible or the ball has been dropped. 25 years in the FBI tells me they must have an idea of who is behind this. If this is not the case, then let the public help.”

Earlier this month, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke with KOLD-TV, where he was asked why the investigation is taking so long. “This is a very sensitive case. But what really makes it prolonged is we do rely on labs for the digital part of this case, which is very critical,” he explained.

“If I were to say there’s a positive to this, it is that people are working, doing their best to stay within those rules so that they have that understanding that, look, nobody wants to arrest the wrong person,” he added. “We want to make sure that DNA doesn’t just identify a suspect. It also exonerates those who are innocent.”
