The dame has spoken. Amid various reports that Tom Hardy‘s future with MobLand is in jeopardy, costar Helen Mirren is speaking out in a public showing of support for the reportedly embattled actor.
In an Instagram post shared with fans on Thursday (May 28), Mirren posted an image of Hardy in character as Harry Da Souza in the show and captioned it with, “Love you now and always, Helen.”
The post comes days after Puck News initially reported that Hardy was fired from the Paramount+ crime drama as a result of his behavior on the set of the recently-filmed second season. That report claimed that Hardy was repeatedly late to set, offered unsolicited scripting suggestions, and upset executive producer Jez Butterworth so much that he threatened to quit the show. A subsequent story at The Hollywood Reporter elaborated that Hardy would not come out of his trailer for hours during production, leaving key costars — the report specifically named Mirren, along with Pierce Brosnan — waiting.
Then, a third report surfaced at Variety in which a source close to production reported that while Hardy’s behaviors did cause dustups with the producers, and he did leave costars waiting, there was no bad blood between Hardy, Mirren, and Brosnan (even if Mirren was quoted to call him out on it from time to time). The site also reported that Hardy’s firing wasn’t a sure thing as initially reported and that discussions about his return for Season 3 were underway.
This new post from Mirren herself seems to confirm the latest reporting that she has no sour feelings for Hardy as a result of what happened during production on the second season.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes from this whiplash-inducing casting saga, but one thing’s for sure: It’s almost as gripping as the show itself.
In MobLand, Hardy stars as Da Souza, the family fixer for the Harrigans, who are led by Brosnan’s Conrad and Mirren’s Maeve. While the first season primarily took place in London and Antwerp, it’s expected that the second season will expand the global scale of the series. Paramount+ has not officially announced a renewal for Season 3 at this time.
MobLand, Paramount+
