What To Know
- Helen Mirren publicly voiced strong support for Tom Hardy amid reports of on-set drama and questions about his return to MobLand.
- Season 2 has already been filmed, but his involvement in a potential third season remains up in the air.
MobLand has been in the news as of late for some behind-the-scenes drama — for a season that hasn’t even officially been picked up yet — but amidst the question of Tom Hardy‘s continued involvement due to reports of on-set behavior, he’s gotten vocal support from one of his costars, Helen Mirren.
Mirren discussed Hardy at the Taormina Film Festival, where she’s the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. “I love Tom. I think he’s the most amazing actor. I’ve always loved him on screen and different actors have different processes. I’ve learned over the years that some people get things fast and other people took time,” she told reporters (via Deadline).
She also noted she’d work with him on another season in “a heartbeat,” explaining, “As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with whatever, however anyone gets there. Tom is a very special person. He’s got the kindest heart. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. So my support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”
As for whether Hardy will be back for a third season, while that remains up in the air, according to reports, Mirren, at the Festival, seemed to think it possible.
“We also have a very great writer, Jez Butterworth, a powerful, fantastic writer,” she said. “So I really hope it’s going to happen. When you have these sort of very powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is very challenging and people can get their knickers in a twist, as we say. But yeah, we will go forward, absolutely, and it’ll be even better.”
It was on May 22 that a report first surfaced that Hardy had been fired from MobLand related to clashes with producers including not arriving on time and script-related issues. Then, five days later, more details were reported that claimed that a “power play” from Hardy included staying in his trailer and delaying production, leaving Mirren and Pierce Brosnan waiting.
A day after that report, on May 28, Mirren first voiced her support for Hardy with an Instagram post of him from the show with “Love you now and always, Helen,” across it.
That same day, May 28, came another report. In that one, a source of Variety‘s said, “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through, creatively.”
