Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson are setting the record straight about false stories spreading online.
The HGTV couple took to Instagram on Sunday, August 9, to issue an alert about an online spam account spreading misinformation about them, particularly about Sherrod. “Greetings from Martha’s Vineyard. We just came from church. I hope everybody’s having a beautiful Sunday,” Sherrod began the video. “Mike and I wanted to let you know something, ’cause we’ve told y’all this for years. We’ve been telling you this, but folks still want to believe what they want to believe. If you don’t hear it from us first, it didn’t happen. It’s not true.”
She went on to explain, “So, there’s a page on Facebook. It’s called Property Pioneers. … We need your help to go on Facebook and get Facebook to take this page down because when I say the damage that they are doing and the thousands of people that are believing the stories — I mean, literally, my children asked me if I had cancer, because the story has traveled so far and wide, and it’s made-up.”
Jackson added, “Just pay attention to not just that page, anything. Again, if it didn’t come from us… There’s a lot of AI being used.” Sherrod agreed, noting, “It makes it look real.”
The post’s second slide featured another video of the couple scrolling through the scam Facebook account’s posts. “Here’s the page, Property Pioneers. They have blocked me now ever since I was commenting in the post, telling people that it’s not real, and asking them to take it down,” Sherrod said. “So, they blocked me, so they know that we have asked them to take it down, but it’s still down.”
Several of the post’s pages featured false quotes from Sherrod, as well as claimed she was struggling with health issues such as cancer. One post, which she described as “very harmful,” falsely alleged that fans were boycotting Sherrod after she supposedly said children’s cartoons shouldn’t feature LGBTQ+ themes.
“That’s a dangerous, dangerous post, because that’s not true,” Sherrod said of the particular post.
Several fans shared that they reported the Facebook page in the post’s comments. “Every time I see one of these pages and stories I call them out by letting people know that it’s AI BS,” one user wrote. Another added, “I just saw this on Facebook and the first thing that came to mind was they didn’t announce it. My heart told me it wasn’t real. Reported!”
Someone else shared, “This is defamation of character and Facebook allows this. I stopped watching HGTV after 20 years when they cancelled your show.” A different person posted, “Wow, That’s Terrible, Thank You All For Sharing.”
Others claimed that the page had allegedly been taken down. “There are other pages with the same name that are not attached to you. But the one you have mentioned here is no longer there,” a commenter shared. A separate person said, “As soon as I saw this post I went to try to report it and couldn’t find it.”
Sherrod and Jackson have continued their home renovation and design work through their company, Indigo Road, in the year since HGTV canceled their flagship series, Married to Real Estate. The series was axed after four seasons in June 2025. In addition to working on two new series, Home Abroad With Egypt and Mike and Deserving Design, Sherrod also teased that Married to Real Estate would be making a comeback in a May interview with OK! Magazine.
