Erin Napier ran into a tricky wardrobe situation while filming Home Town.
Erin and her husband, Ben Napier, are working on Season 11 of their flagship HGTV series, which follows the couple as they give new life to rundown and historic properties in their hometown of Laurel, Mississippi.
In a Thursday, September 17, Instagram post, Erin shared a surprising fact that fans might realize about filming an HGTV series. “I rent clothes since we film every day and it saves money to not buy tons of new clothes. Which means I also send them back,” she said. “And today we have a fiasco.”
Erin went on to explain, “We filmed something a month ago and the memory card got fried! So.. we have to reshoot it. It’s just the drone footage and it’s just from behind. Ben Napier ingenuity and some pants I haven’t worn in years save the day. I guess? Y’all think it’ll work?”
In the post, Erin shared photos of the green skort she wore in the now-deleted footage, along with the solution she and Ben came up with. “So, I took some pants that are that color, and I cut the legs off, and then tucked the legs into the waistband to make it look like a skort,” she said while filming herself in front of a mirror. “I think it’ll pass. I hope so. Maybe y’all won’t notice, but maybe you will, and then you’ll laugh.”
Fans reacted to Erin’s wardrobe mishap in the post’s comments. “Probably be fine for drone footage from behind. go with it, don’t worry about it!” Another added, “Totally works!! Especially with drone footage shot from above, no one will be able to tell the difference!”
Someone else shared, “I can reassure you that most of us are looking at your beautiful renovations and not your clothes. At least I’m not.” A different person posted, “Love this BTS info but I wouldn’t have even noticed I’m sure!!”
A separate commenter stated, “Honestly, I think producers put too much stock in this. If you were wearing a different outfit, I would just think you came back the next day, or you had to go home and change because you got sweaty or dirty or something. And we all know scenes get filmed on different days, or that things get refilmed as needed, anyways. Just wear different clothes. Who cares?”
Home Town aired its milestone 10th season on HGTV earlier this year. Last month, Erin confirmed that Season 11 was officially in the works by taking fans through a typical day of filming.
“When is more Home Town coming? Soon! We just came back to filming from our summer break,” she captioned the August 1 upload. “This is a typical day during filming, which runs year round. We have an incredible sitter who is with the girls when we are at work (she was my favorite babysitter when she was a teenager) and my parents fill in too. I love to hear about people’s routines. Do you?”
