There’s a meaningful reason behind Jenny and Dave Marrs‘ latest family vacation destination.
In a Thursday, July 16, Instagram post, the Fixer to Fabulous star revealed that the couple and their five kids are currently visiting Alaska with her parents. The trip was inspired by her mom’s desire to fulfill one of her own father’s life goals.
“30 years ago, my Papa passed away after a courageous battle with ALS. He left this earth way too soon at age 53 with dreams left unfulfilled,” Jenny wrote. “My mom carried one [of] her dad’s dreams with her all these years: to drive in an RV from our home state of Florida to Alaska.”
Jenny said she and her family were reminded of “how fragile this life is” after losing several loved ones over the past year, including her grandmother. “Although the logistics were daunting, they decided to be brave and adventurous and I am so, so proud of them!” she said of her parents. “They’ve been on the road for almost 3 months – my dad wakes at 4 am to work first thing in the morning before they explore or drive on to their next destination. It’s certainly not easy but they have told us again and again that it is absolutely worth it.”
She continued, “Now, they’ve fulfilled a decades-long dream and we cashed in every last SkyMile to join them for a bit. This is a bucket list trip for all of us and, so far, it has been beyond anything we could have imagined or hoped for.”
Jenny concluded the caption by gushing over Alaska, calling the state “breathtakingly beautiful yet rugged” and “harsh yet gentle.” She wrote, “Here, together, we are marveling at our masterful Creator with wide eyes and grateful hearts.”
The post featured a sweet family photo Jenny and Dave took with her parents and their kids — Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte, and Luke — in front of a picturesque Alaskan landscape. Jenny also shared a snap of her parents smiling and embracing for the camera.
Fans sent the family their well-wishes and shared their similar stories in the post’s comments. “Welcome to Alaska! We have lived here for a total of almost 30 years since 1987, we love it! And haven’t missed an episode of Fixer,” one user wrote.
Another shared, “My dad dream bucket list was driving to Alaska which him and my mom did. Took them about two half months to drive to Alaska and back. He loved everything about it. They traveled through Alaska driving the car, using train transport or boats to travel to undriveable places when they needed too.”
Someone else stated, “We lived in Alaska for 3 years, moved back to the lower 48 last summer. The best way to describe it is: Alaska is MORE. More magnificent, more wild, more beautiful than any place I’ve seen (and I’ve been to some other amazing places). It has ruined me for anyplace else. I miss it every day.”
Jenny shared more pics and clips of the family’s Alaska activities via her Instagram Story on Thursday, including riding horses, chilling in a hot tub, gushing over wild otters, taking a cold plunge in the sea, and enjoying a game night together.
