Jonathan Scott was a proud fiancé supporting Zooey Deschanel at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
Scott walked the red carpet with the actress at the film festival on Friday, September 11, for the premiere of her new movie Trash Mountain. The film stars Deschanel and Caleb Hearon as siblings who sort through their hoarder father’s estate after his death.
Scott gushed about the film and Deschanel’s performance in an emotional Instagram post on Friday. “Tonight my heart is happy. Got to cheer on my person at the premiere of what is one of the best films I’ve seen in years,” he wrote. “Very emotional. Very relatable. I hope you ruin your mascara too #Trash Mountain.”
Scott’s post featured a red carpet snap he took with Deschanel, as well as a photo of the film’s cast and crew presenting the movie on stage at the festival. In the post’s comments, one fan gushed, “How lucky you are to have eachother [sic].” Another added, “Jonathan, I hope that you and Zooey will have a wonderful time together in Toronto!”
Someone else shared, “Jonathan, your hair looks sooo good! You two are the cutest! Sounds wonderful! Bravo!!” A different person posted, “You two are so beautiful together!” A separate commenter stated, “I cannot wait to see it!!”
In an Instagram post of her own, Deschanel showed off her outfit and glam for the film’s TIFF premiere. “Trash Mountain Premiere @tiff_net,” she captioned the Sunday, September 13, upload. “Makeup + Videos @tamielsombati. Hair @claraleopard. Styling @katwaslike.”
Scott left a sweet message for Deschanel in the post’s comments, writing, “I think you’re really cute.”
Scott and Deschanel began dating shortly after they met while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke in 2019. Scott popped the question in 2023, and the pair have been engaged ever since. Deschanel was previously married to Ben Gibbard and shares her two kids, Elsie and Charlie, with her second husband, Jacob Pechenik. Scott was also previously married to Kelsy Ully.
In addition to supporting Deschanel’s career, Scott is also supporting Deschanel’s family by rebuilding their California home that burned down in the January 2025 Pacific Palisades fire. “It’s emotional. It’s hard to see your loved one in pain, and everybody’s experiencing it. Everybody,” Scott tearfully stated during a June interview on CNN‘s Erin Burnett OutFront.
During the segment, Scott explained that he and his team are rebuilding the home using RSG-3D technology, which he is trying for the first time. “RSG is simply no wood. You’re building a structure that’s reinforced steel with a polystyrene core, and it’s concrete on the surface, both the inside and the outside,” the Property Brothers star said. “The entire structure, roof, walls, floors, everything is tied together, so it’s hyper-efficient, incredibly strong, and fireproof from both the inside and the outside.”
He continued, “It’s way faster, and the cost is about 10 percent more than the traditional, but I would never have to deal with anything again. If anyone’s ever had a flood or termites or rot, it doesn’t affect this ’cause there’s nothing organic in it.”
