Eva Pilgrim‘s family life has improved since she began hosting Inside Edition.

Back in July 2025, Pilgrim was announced as the replacement for longtime host Deborah Norville, who stepped down from her anchor role that May. Pilgrim officially took over the position in August 2025. One year into the gig, Pilgrim revealed what part of the job has been “a bit of a shock” for her in a new interview with People.

“Inside operates like a normal, standard corporate office, where you get off Memorial Day and Fourth of July. That has been kind of funny,” she told the outlet. “I’ve been navigating, figuring out, ‘Oh, what do I do with myself on these holidays?’”

Prior to joining Inside Edition, Pilgrim co-hosted GMA3: What You Need to Know and served as a Senior National Correspondent for ABC News. “I didn’t realize the amount of anxiety that I was just carrying around with me because I didn’t have control of my own schedule and where I was going to be,” she noted. “You’re kind of at the mercy of whatever is happening in the news cycle.”

Pilgrim said having more freedom over her schedule has helped her build a better work-life balance and spend more time with her husband, Ed Hartigan, and their daughter, Ella. “My daughter is 4, so I’m able to start creating the kind of memories that I remember from my childhood, but things that were not a part of my adult life up until this past year,” she shared. “It’s been so fun. I can sneak off to the beach on the weekends, and I never have to be afraid that I’m going to get called back in to the city to work or have to catch a flight. You don’t know what you’re missing out on until you have it.”

Back in June, Pilgrim shared a rare photo of her daughter via Instagram to celebrate Father’s Day. “Happy Father’s Day to the guy who literally holds it all together for us. Watching you be the dad you are might be my greatest joy in life,” she wrote alongside a snap of Hartigan holding Ella and their dog. “Baby girl and I are so grateful to have you. You are the best decision I’ve made yet. Love you and Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads out there!!!”

Pilgrim previously opened up to TV Insider about what her life looked like since joining Inside Edition. “I have a three-year-old, and I have a dog that had a back injury, so he’s almost paralyzed. So, it’s a lot of taking care of people,” she shared in September 2025. “I was up in the middle of the night with my daughter, who decided to drink a bunch of water before bed last night, and she had to pee, and needed a snack, and then we were up early doing exercises for my dog and teaching him how to use his new wheelchair. So, a lot of family [time], which I never dreamed was possible to have. I’m enjoying it.”

Describing herself as the “luckiest person,” Pilgrim continued, “I really feel that way. I have an incredible husband who is just, he would never, ever have complained about how crazy my schedule was at ABC. He was always cheering for me, but I think he’s really relieved that I’m home.”
