The Survivor 51 theme is “The Open Era,” and the cast announcement livestream will include the first-look tour at the tribal council set.

The Emmy-nominated reality competition series is bringing a new theme with Season 51 as a follow-up to Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans. Season 50 was full of new twists, and The Open Era will take Survivor twists to the next level. For the first time ever, every twist or advantage in Survivor history could come into play in any order and without warning.

The Survivor 51 cast will be all new players to kick off the new era of the series, and it will likely go back to 18 players instead of 24 like Survivor 50. The milestone season was a special case that prompted production to make its biggest cast ever. In Season 51, the special element is the twists. A trailer for Survivor 51 was shown during the Season 50 finale in May. The cast for Season 50 was also announced on social media last year.
Survivor 50 is currently nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Host and Reality Competition Program. Probst has won four Emmys for his work on Survivor, but the show itself has never won the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category as it currently exists.
The category was first created in 2003 in part in response to the pop culture phenomenon that Survivor helped create when it first debuted in May 2000. Survivor Season 1 did win Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Special Class), which was the category for reality shows before the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category was made.
