“Have your Kleenex. Have some wine and really, really good company,” Chyler Leigh recommends when it comes to The Way Home series finale, airing on June 21 on the Hallmark Channel.

Leigh (Kat), Evan Williams (Elliot), and Sadie Laflamme-Snow (Alice) sat down with TV Insider in our ATX TV Festival suite to reflect on the series as it nears its end. Watch the full video interview above.

“I think the fans of the show will be really happy in the way that our showrunners and our writers are so in tune with what’s important to keep the show feeling like it’s The Way Home that we all know and love,” Laflamme-Snow says. “I also think that I’m really proud of what we did and it doesn’t take away from the magic of what is a season finale for this story, too, because we’re building towards so many exciting moments for the season, not just the series, all the things that people want to have tied up.”

Leigh is hesitant to say much about how the series ends for Kat, but she tells us, “I’m grateful that we are able to truly portray a Landry never gives up hope.”

The stars also acknowledge that there are shows that don’t get to Season 4.

“The fact that we were able to stick the landing after four seasons is just a dream come true and the fact that so many people around the world can now see it, I couldn’t be happier,” Williams notes, referring to the fact that it’s now streaming on Netflix.

With the series ending, we had to ask them which reveals shocked them the most over the years, and Laflamme-Snow immediately brought up the fact that her and Leigh’s characters were on the road when Kat’s father Colton (Jefferson Brown) dies.

“Season 1, we’re still building the audience’s trust and so obviously it was a bit of a departure from what people come to expect from a Hallmark series,” she explains. “The idea that we somehow caused the death of such a beloved character was, I think, the first time where I was like, ‘You can’t come back from this.’”

Leigh agrees, “It alters absolutely everything.”

Adds Williams, “We weren’t even sure if we were going to be allowed to do it.”
