Hugh Jackman just let fans know that he is undergoing a cancer scare. He gave an update on what is happening in this life right now and gave a timetable on when fans might be hearing more.

Here is what Jackman had to say.

Hugh Jackman announces cancer concerns

Hugh Jackman, 54, announced to fans that he has undergone a cancer scare. The Australian actor admitted in a personal video he shot for fans that he underwent two biopsies following his doctor finding what could end up being Basal Cell Carcinoma – a form of skin cancer.

This wouldn’t be Hugh’s first cancer scare, as he had six skin cancers removed from his face over two years starting in 2017. In 2021, he learned the worst-case scenario was Basal Cell Carcinoma. He has now made a video with a bandage over his nose and told people to be careful in the sun.

Hugh told fans that he had the two biopsies, but he has an “awesome” doctor and that fans shouldn’t worry. He called Basal Cell Carcinoma the least dangerous form of skin cancer.

What is Basal Cell Carcinoma?

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, and over 3.6 million cases are diagnosed each year. This form of cancer grows slowly and this means they are easily curable and cause minimal damage as long as doctors catch them early. They take the form of open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, scars, or growths with slightly elevated, rolled edges and/or a central indentation.

Hugh Jackman said that these are a result of the time he spent a lot of time outdoors 25 years ago. He once again warned fans to practice sun safety, including using sunscreen and protecting the skin. Hugh also said that he has no problem sharing his skin cancer scares with fans. He said if it helps others protect themselves, it is worth it.

Jackman talks using sunscreen

When Jackman was a child, he said that sunscreen and other protection were not a priority for his family. He said his dad and mom never made any of them put any on before heading in the sun. Hugh said the only rule his parents had about spending time outdoors was not to swim within half an hour of eating.

“Please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it,” Jackman said. “No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me.”

Hugh Jackman has continued to work in both movies and on the stage in recent years. He went on a world tour in 2019, performing songs from The Greatest Showman. In 2022, he starred in the movie The Son, where he picked up a Golden Globes nomination. He also starred in The Music Man on the stage in 2022 and picked up a Tony Awards nomination. His next major role will be bringing Wolverine to the MCU in Deadpool 3.
