Is Apple TV series Pachinko getting a Season 2?

The Korean, Japanese and English-language drama was created, written and executive produced by Soo Hugh. It is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee.

Pachinko follows a Korean immigrant family across four generations. At the heart of the show is the journey through life as they leave their home in hopes of a brighter future.

Beginning in the early 1900s, the tale is told from the perspective of Sunja, the family’s matriarch. Now it appears that the tale will continue.

Is Apple TV Extending Pachinko?

As has been the case when it comes to series on the streamer, it was announced that Pachinko had been renewed for a second season just ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale on Friday night.

“Words cannot express my joy in being able to continue telling the extraordinary story of this indomitable family,” Hugh said in a statement after the announcement. “I’m grateful to the amazing team at Apple and Media Res studio for believing and supporting this show and to our passionate fans who have cheered us on. It’s an honor to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew.”

Hugh also serves as a showrunner for the series. Kogonada and Justin Chon directed four episodes each of the first season, and also serve as executive producers. Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer executive produce for Media Res, Theresa Kang-Lowe executive produces for Blue Marble Pictures and Richard Middleton also executive produces.

Now that the show has been picked up again, it will be interesting to see where it goes. So far, there aren’t any details about a story for Season 2. However, those with the program won’t have to wait to learn their fate. Instead, they’ll be able to get to work immediately.

Apple TV On A Roll

While Pachinko is just one of the latest shows to get a second season, it appears that the streamer is starting to find its rhythm. Renewals have been issued for several shows on the network.

That includes the critically acclaimed Severance. The show that features a very unique balance of work/home life also got renewed for a second season just ahead of its first season finale.

Apple TV hasn’t been shy about hitting multiple genres. It’s also invested big in shows like Invasion. That seems to show that while some of these series aren’t getting a ton of viewers, the platform is willing to stick it out with shows it thinks are quality.

That in turn could eventually lead to better viewer numbers.

Apple TV is getting ready to release one of its most popular series. Mythic Quest will see its third season kick off early next month. Perhaps Pachinko will be able to claim that in the future as well.
