Is Elliot Dead on ‘The Way Home’? Series Finale Sneak Peek Shows Explosion Aftermath (Exclusive)

Despite Kat (Chyler Leigh) and Elliot’s (Evan Williams) attempts to stop it, the explosion at the Lingermore party in 1925 not only happens but it also may claim the life of someone very important to a Landry. As the penultimate episode of The Way Home ended, the face-off between Elliot’s mom, Tessa (Megan Follows), and officers, including Cliff (Dan Jeannotte), set off the series of events that led to said explosion — right after Elliot was shot! The episode ended with Kat dragging him off.

Now, TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of the Sunday, June 21, series finale of the Hallmark time-travel drama. Kat finds Fern (Bianca Melchior) in a daze on the beach in the aftermath of the explosion. “The pond won’t take me back. I don’t know if Elliot’s still alive,” Kat tells her, panicking. This does sound promising, at least, that he survived long enough to make it to the pond.

But Fern’s in shock. “Cliff was supposed to kiss me at midnight. Why didn’t he kiss me? You don’t stand a gal up like that, not on New Year’s Eve,” she says. Kat tries to assure her that Cliff must have gotten out, too, since she and Elliot did.

“Of course he did, Kitty Kat. What goes in must come out, right? He and I, we get to grow old together,” she says. But then a body is found. Watch the full video above for more.

In the series finale, Hallmark teases, “Across generations, endings and new beginnings arrive for the Landry family and their loved ones, as the pond always brings surprises.”

When TV Insider spoke with executive producers Alexandra Clarke and Heather Conkie ahead of the season, they teased what to expect from the end of the series.

“The door is never closed,” said Clarke, with Conkie adding, “There will always be questions in our show, even near the end. So, it’s always nice to leave people going, ‘Well, I wonder if …’”

Clarke explained, “One of the things that our show does is even when we do provide answers, there’s always a question mark at the end of those answers. Those answers beget questions. And I don’t think our finale will be any different, but there certainly will be answers, and hopefully satisfying ones. That’s the whole point.”
