Is Javadi Leaving ‘The Pitt’? Shabana Azeez Hints at Season 3 Changes

- Advertisment -

What To Know

  • When The Pitt returns for Season 3, there will be a major change for Javadi.
  • Shabana Azeez addresses her character’s future.

As The Pitt Season 2 ended, Javadi (Shabana Azeez) seemed to figure out her specialty. And now, comments from Azeez ahead of Season 3 beginning filming suggest that she’s sticking with that plan.

“I can say that I’m not in the ER this season. I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation,” she told Bustle in June. “It’s a very different vibe for me. And I’m scared and nervous. But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine.”

The day shift was still around in the Season 2 finale, digitizing charts after having to go analog to thwart a potential cyberattack after another hospital was hit. As Javadi was wondering about law school, when it comes to what’s next for her, she noted that she’d realized how important mental health was, with what she saw in her coworkers. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) suggested she focus on that since she had a passion for it, and Javadi, despite an initial protest, realized he was right.

“We knew at the beginning of Season 2 that that might be where she goes, and we kicked it around for a long time and then just decided to commit to it because it is such a huge part of medicine,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told TV Insider after the Season 2 finale. “It’s a huge part of emergency medicine and it’s a growing issue. And so it seemed like a great arena to explore further.”

That and Azeez’s comments suggest that we don’t have to worry about her leaving the show at least, unlike Supriya Ganesh, who isn’t returning as Dr. Samira Mohan in Season 3. But we do wonder what this means for how much she’ll be interacting with the rest of the ER staff and how those dynamics might be different. We also can’t help but hope this means we’ll see more of attending psychiatrist Dr. Caleb Jefferson (Christopher Thornton), especially after the interactions we got of those two in Season 2.

So far, a cast list has not been released for The Pitt Season 3. And when we spoke with Gemmill in April, he’d said it was “still TBD” if anyone else would not be returning.

“The reality of the hospital is that people come and go. And we’ve known that since we started. And it’s one of the things, it’s good and it’s bad. It’s good because it keeps things fresh and it also makes it feel like a real working environment,” he explained. “It’s bad because we lose people, characters that we have grown to love, but that’s just part of the process. So we know that eventually a lot of people will come and go, and that’s just going to be the nature of the show.”
